Xak II (MSX2, OPLL) updated with improved trimming on 3 tracks. Xak II (MSX2, PSG) has been finished.

Yeah it is quite noticeable that the early games’ PSG versions got a lot of attention!

It was said that they composed for PSG first and then added the FM onto it. May be a key technique for those who would like to compose for FM+PSG as well and want to achieve a Micro Cabin like quality.

By the way I did some experiments combining FM sounds with another on a 2nd channel, as well as with the PSG, and I have to say the combinations with the PSG yielded the best sounding results. The rich overtones of the square waves really manages to change the timbre significantly and adds a lot of richness to the sound. So yeah, FM+PSG, great combination.

Cool! Regarding Gazzel:

Yeah it’s on my wish list as well, but I could not find a OST to use as reference for track order and naming... I will investigate!

As far as I know, there was no official soundtrack release, so this Egg Music page might be the best source for the track names.

You can regard that as the official soundtrack release :) Also VGMdb is kind of a helpful site here..
There you'll also find the PC-9801 soundtrack (also EGG Music), which is for most part identical to the MSX. Someone translated the Japanese to English there, seems pretty accurate to me, uses slightly different forms/translations here & there. Some things I think need to be addressed in your current titles are:

09. Before Boss Battle
16. G-Crab
21. Powell (Paueru)'s Soul
24. Before Decisive Battle
25. Opposition (Resistance) of Zegraya (or: Zegraya's Opposition)
26. The Tables Are Turned ('situation reversal')

Haven't taken a look at the Cabin Times tracks.

Another thing: never heard of Koji Hamada, seems like Google's translation (earlier it was Koji Ukida..) Correct name is Yukiharu Urita (confirmed by his Twitter account as well ;)) (幸治 machine-translates to kōji however..)

Note that in your Illusion City pack (same composers), you called him Koji Uda.

I think it's safe to mention Tadahiro Nitta as sole composer for Boroz Forest.

A quote from the EGG Music OST page (Google translation):

Quote:

Tadahiro Nitta, who worked on “Xak” and “XakII”, was in charge of only the opening and ending songs, and the newly joined Yasufuku Fukuda and Koji Hamada worked on the main tracks of this work. Fukuda says "I made the image of the previous two works as much as possible", and Hirota said "I did it as I wanted to do it myself", and the conflicting attitudes of the two produced a different "Xak" sound. ing.

But yeah, then we're still not sure what's part of the opening & ending songs exactly.. Anyway, not that big of a thing, but perhaps Nitta should be mentioned last then attribution-wise? (Or use the order on the Project EGG page. [edit: which you already did I see now :)) (Kinda nit-pick o/c :))

Cheers :-)

NB: Powell's Spirit might be more accurate, as I never played the game, I couldn't tell.

Google translate gives some poor translations here & there (I wonder if it has gone worse since last time I checked these titles), like translating #24 to simply 'Before the battle', or 'Powell spirit'. I always double/triple check elsewhere.

- and oh, it's Yasufumi Fukuda ..

Some suggestions (and fixes/improvements) on the Xak II titles:

06. I'd say Tautook (Tautūku)
08. Bar Drunkard 酒場の酔っ払い Sakaba no yopparai
11. Townsman 町人 Chōnin
12. (see 11)
17. Fierce Fighting! Four Heavenly Kings 激闘!四天王 Gekitō! Shitennō
22. Bewitching Radiance あやしき輝き Ayashiki kagayaki
29. Setting Sail 船出 Funade
31. Drifting Ashore of Death Mountain デスマウンテンの漂着 Desumaunten no hyōchaku
33. When the Red Moon Waxes 赤き月満ちるとき Akaki tsuki michiru toki
35. Merely One Person Final Decisive Battle! ただ一人最終決戦! Tada ichi nin saishū kessen!
36. Showdown! Shogun Gospel 対決!将軍ゴスペル Taiketsu! Shōgun Gosuperu
37. Demon Confrontation 妖魔対決 Yōma taiketsu (or 'ghost' but I think 'demon' is more accurate here? (players?))
38. Final Struggle to the Death 最後の死闘 Saigo no shitō

ボローズの森 Borōzu no mori is commonly translated as Boroz Forest, but Borose is fine as well I suppose?

Okay I will take these suggestions and also adjust the translations to match the vgmdb translations.

Odd thing is that the MSX OST on egg music has track 25 as "Gazzel('s) Resistance" not "Zegraya's Resistance". So I took that one. Not sure which of the 2 is actually correct, maybe someone who played the game can help?

Yes, I see, I think the title on the MSX OST is false.

They're the same song on both systems, checked in hoot, and same titles there as well. I believe there's a battle with a demon called Zegraya (check e.g. WikiPedia).

So Opposition of Zegraya ゼグライアの抵抗 Zeguraia no teikō should be correct.

(I kinda prefer 'opposition' over 'resistance' as that comes across as more active & menacing (and thus should be more fitting I think))

Btw: 08. Underground 地下 Chika can also mean Basement (I think both are correct / apply here?)
