A newbie question about sprites

Hey there everyone,
I'm trying to learn how to use sprites in BASIC. How do I make more than one sprite and separate them? Using DATA only seems to make it so that I can only use one sprite at a time. It's been gnawing at me now for some time. Can someone help me here?
