Yes, the MSX-PLAYer is a limited emulator and the games released by Bazix/Woomb will run only with the MSX-PLAYer.

More precisely, for each game released under this form, you will have a file that will install on your harddisk a special version of the MSX-PLAYer; this version can only start the embedded (and crypted) game and can't be used for another game.

So, in another words, it's an adapted version of the MSX game for PC running Windows, although the code of the rom (or dsk) game can be found under a crypted form in the main installed file.

For more explanations about the technical aspects of the Japanese MSX Revival that Bazix tries to export outside Japan, see this Japanese site :

In Japan, the MSX games released by Project EGG are under the form that I've described and that is recommended on the MSX Revival page :

A precision : only Japanese can register himself on Project EGG and buy this game

Hmm might be a nice idea for a poll. To check the real potential of it.
Since I see that slowly people are understanding that woomb in the begining would just be about emulated games. Now being pesimistic(I personally would say realistic) as allways I have my doubts about the point that it will ever support the real stuff.
But offcourse they might try to proof me wrong. Might be interresting to open a real topic about the emulation only situation.

To a certain extent that is true. Our current license agreements with the original software publishers have high demands for copyprotections, which -when it comes to the on-line distribution of software - can only be applied when the software is being bundled with MSXPLAYer. If WOOMB turns out to become a success, next steps like releasing software for MSX on real MSX media (disk/ROM) could very well become an option and one we're definately looking forward to.

Hm, so buying 5 games from Bazix would give me 5 MSX-PLAYers, each of which is tuned to only play that one specific game it came bundled with? What a waste of disk space...

/me sticks with old-fashioned, mainstream, up-to-date, licence-free, near-perfect emulators...

Another game I'd like to see translated (this time an MSX1 one):
Mitsume Ga Tooru (The Three Eyed One).

It seems there's a cool game behind all those japanese texts. Have you ever played (and progressed at) it??

All I can say about the 3-eyed one is that the music is cool, but I don't know the purpose of the game: I am going and jumping, sometimes entering different streets, choose something I don't understand in the menu - until "game over" appears :-)

METAL GEAR Japanese version. It´d be cool to read the complete texts from the original. I heard one day that is possible to patch the game with these texts. Anyone knows about that?

People even decided to redo the translation based on the japanese version of Metal Gear. Or are you referring to a current english version patched to a japanese one?
