Good evening, I think you were wrong about the input of the pioneer cable, that is the one of the cassette. The one that goes to the ld player is the one on the left.

Okay looked at those images again and am quite sure you are correct, It should be the port to the left (in the cluster where also the 3.5mm ports are located).

If that's the case, my cable isn't correct at all, because the part of my cord labeled "To MSX," doesn't fit in the port marked 3. My cord only fits the port it is in and the RGB port.

Out of desperation, I purchased another LD player on Yahoo JP Auctions which says it comes with the MSX cord. Now I just need to wait a month to test it... Sad

As long as it isn't the PX-7 itself which has a broken port, I will soon(ish) have two LD players and two cords to help me troubleshoot.

If you can put a little higher resolution images on, we can read the labels at the connectors on both MSX and LD player.

Here are the links to higher resolution images, if you click the image it enlarges.

Yeah, so the area where you plugged it in is marked "data recorder" and the top plug says "audio" and the bottom "data".
The group left of that says "System Control". The connectors marked 1, 2 and 3 are marked "output" at the bottom, I think. With 2 it says "coupler"?? No idea.
ANyway, I'd say indeed that the connector marked as '3' should be used.

And yes, this is confirmed by https://www.msx.org/wiki/Pioneer_PX-7 and the link to the service manual: http://www.msxarchive.nl/pub/msx/mirrors/hanso/service_manua...

Thanks for all the help. That means I have the wrong cable, so hopefully the new one on order will fix my issue. Bummed I can't play yet, but at least this seems like an easy fix and I don't have broken hardware.

Now I wonder if the previously linked cable was the right one to buy, or if that cable would be wrong on both ends?

You should be able to tell that yourself now, right?

Fair enough! My completely unscientific eye up DIN cables on ebay test gave me what looks like the right cable. I will provide an update in a week once received.

P.S. - I owe everyone who helped me out a drink next time you're in Buffalo, I really appreciate it!

I received my new cable today and the MSX Palcom setup now works perfectly! Many thanks for helping me troubleshoot, the seller giving me the wrong cable had me all sorts of confused. For anyone who may have this problem in the future, the following cable is the one which was successful. You were all correct, the cable needed to go into the MSX in the port with the 3 label.

I had 15 minutes during my lunch break to try out Cosmos Circuit. The game certainly is somewhat primitive, but it is pretty amazing technology for the mid-1980s. I was able to beat the first stage, I'll get back to it this weekend to see if I can make it through the whole game.

The game reminds me of Rocket Coaster for Laseractive, though the background animation isn't as varied or well done. This can be forgiven since the game is 9 years older. There is also a combat aspect to Cosmos Circuit, where shooting a car makes it come at you in a straight line, rather than swerve at you when you try to pass. The other cars on the road in this game are obnoxious! Overall, I had fun with my brief intro.
