Hi everyone,

A dumb question : does MG2 forces the MSX2 in 60Hz display ?
Or does it leave the hardware frequency untouched ?

In other words : does MG2 plays at 50Hz on european MSX2 ? Or 60Hz ?

Thanks.

I think to recall that both SD Snatcher and Metal Gear 2 did indeed force 60Hz.

That's easily tested on a machine or emulator... The answer is that it indeed does change to 60Hz on a European MSX2.

While the Japanese Space Manbow forces 60Hz, it's unofficual Dutch sequel Manbow 2 forces 50Hz.
Back in the day it could result in unwanted effects on a TV, but I doubt a lot of us still suffer from that Smile

Btw, blueMSX has an exclusive feature, allowing to force 50Hz or 60Hz, even on MSX1 machines Smile

How does that feature work?

In openMSX you can toggle the 50/60Hz bit in the VDP with a single command, but on MSX1 you'll have to choose a machine with the VDP type you want.

I have always thought that Konami had in mind to release Space Manbow internationally because all in-game texts are in English and the game is from 1989 (well, late 1989) and other Konami MSX from that year arrived to Europe (Nemesis 3 and Contra).
