I have been following this discussion , I'm a newbie with MSX and Carnivore.
So far C2MAN seems perfectly working for me.
So if I want to try SR I just download and unzip it in the root of the card?
Is there any risk in installing it and executing? Better to take a backup of the card before?
What's going to happen to the ROMS I installed with C2MAN when I use SR?

You can just use the Carnivore 2 RAM with SR (which is the default when a C2 is present). It won't affect anything in the C2 flash ROM at all. SR is a safe program to run, it doesn't have any risk to run, as far as I know. Just try it!

Last question - Is there an official compatibility list for SOFARUN or the Carnivore 2? I've been having random issues with some games and I'm not sure if it's due to me not picking the right settings or if it's just not possible to get them running properly.

A don't think someone has built such a list.
I have issue with Aleste2 DSK (no running at all). I test DSK and ROM under WebMSX before use it with SofaRun on my real MSX2.

I use the setting "No memory mapper :Yes" by default (for DSK).
And I noticed that GalForce and some other DSK games need mapper.
So, when a game didn't work, it's the first change I make in settings.

Aleste 2 needs some patches to work properly with sofarun.

Yes, there are known issues with Aleste 2 related to multiple RAM slots (which is often the case when using flash devices embedding RAM expansions).

You can grab different patches here:

Let me know if this does not work.

Hello Louthrax.

Thanks for your great work on Sofarun.
I would like to say thanks because Carnivore2 would be almost useless without SofaRun.

I was also stuck with Snatcher & SD Snatcher translations & Carnivore2 as I only have 128Ko RAM mapped and it seems that Snatcher games doesn't support IDE/RAM/SCC+ in subslot. (Slot & subslots are not very clear things in my mind). So it seems that I could'nt use Carnivore's SCC+, Carnivore's RAM and Carnivore's IDE at the same time with these game.

Thanks for the link to your patchs that it didn't find before !

I've been running SD Snatcher and Snatcher from CF card with Carnivore 2 (and SCC sound), so it is possible. (I didn't use SofaRun for it though.) But that is on a turboR with 512kB RAM built in.

The C2 isn't useless without SofaRun, but yeah, it's very comfortable to use it for running ROMs in the Carnivore 2 RAM. For the rest it just behaves like my good old SCSI setup I had in the 90/00's.

I used Louthrax patch on Aleste 2 and I am able to launch disk 1 but game crashes with disc 2.

I try again from scratch, checking crc for each disk & patching and joining 3 disks.
Disk 1 is OK but disk 2 not. Even when booting directly on disk 2.g

Keep trying

I'll try to check that this week-end, not sure if I checked booting from disk 2 when I made the patches (bit I'm pretty sure it was possible to finish the game when booting from disk 1).

Indeed the C2 isn't useless without SofaRun at all. SofaRun is very convenient but Multimente and M file manager also do a great job.
