Maybe I am raising a stupid question that has been answered already hundred of times before. If that's the case I apologise.

But does the forum have email notifications when:

  • People are reacting to discussions/threads a user started?
  • People are replying to comments a user created?
  • People are mentioning another user on the forum?

Nope. Moreover, sending directly an email via contact form not always works

I think it is because nowadays it is not that simple to send emails. You can't just install mail server and use it - your mails will not pass the spam filters. As it is quite complicated you likely have to use a service which costs money. And MRC is not making enough money from advertising, so only donations keep it alive...

Sorry but as a owner of a company that hosts and manages quite a lot of environments for all kinds of customers, as well as being reseller of a certain spamfilter, I write that off as simply not true. You don't need a third party to send mail without getting flagged. Create a SPF record, DKIM and DMARC records, make sure your return path is correct and you are pretty much good to go. I see absolutely no reason why msx.org couldn't send mail from the webhost machine, other than just the choice not to do so.

I would like to ask you to participate and put efforts to help them solve the issue. As far as i know there's also problem with admins (i mean no content moderation, i mean maintaining tech side) since Latok left, so maybe if you help with that, they will change "the choice not to do so" to "choice to do so"?

PS Btw maybe that is not that complicated when you know all that %%IT and have hands-on experience. Though i tried to do like i used to do back in 2002 with simple sendmail installation and a little bit of config on my VDS, and i got my ip in spam dbs immediately. Didn't need it that much and since i just wanted to test the code i wrote for someone else, i registered account on sendgrid and they have free plan enough for testing stuff, that's all

I think adding an email service that is correctly set up is not such a big deal. But integrating it with the forum software might be a bit more convoluted.

Maybe if a small group of willing gets together we're able to create a wonderful new feature to the forum.

What software is actually used for this forum? I assume that supports mailing at all?

I am really very sorry that weI cannot give a clear explanation here.
For some time we have been hearing reports that PMs are not being forwarded. Our tests had not confirmed this, the problem is not permanent. But it is no less annoying, especially if you want to rely on it.
We will continue to investigate the problem, but for now we recommend that you send messages through your mail account.

IIRC, the notification messages were turned off, because of a performance problem.
The site is made in Drupal, AFAIK.
