I just came back from my first visit to akihabara, and wow, a few of those shops you guys recommended were amazing! Specially "Beep Akihabara" and "Super Potato"!!! In Beep they even sold MSX computers (they had two turbo r's and an MSX2+ for sale), and they had an additional couple of MSX machines on with a couple of games. They even had that Thexder robot figure that some one posted in the forums a few months ago!!!

Some other shops had a few MSX games (some quite expensive, I saw a boxed Space Manbow for $300!), but BEEP and Super Potato had them at very good prices!! I bought a boxed "Shalom" for less than $30!! and they also had boxed Vampire Killer and F-1 Spirit! Both shops had many cartridge games (without box) for about $10 - $30 each. So, if any of you guys are around, definitively pay a visit to BEEP and Super Potato (but mind that BEEP opens only in the evening! from 5pm to 9pm or so)

Tomorrow I'll go on the hunt for a few more Smile

On the other hand, Vampire Killer and F-1 Spirit are surely more expensive.

Vampire Killer and F-1 Spirit were indeed more expensive. But not as much as I would have imagined (I think they were either $50 or $70 if I remember correctly). In BEEP they had games in 3 different categories:
- cartridges by themselves
- cartridge + manual + box (but the box was flattened and put into a plastic bag, so I assume these were used ones)
- boxed games (which were more expensive).

I'll take some pictures tomorrow and post them Smile

If you see a copy of A Life M36 Planet: Motherbrain Has Been Aliving -- particularly complete-in-box -- BUY IT, and I will totally be your best friend forever. Wink

(Seriously, though; I want that game, and will absolutely pay a premium for it if I can get it CIB!)

But yeah, Beep is really cool, isn't it? When I was there in October, they had sort of a "shrine to Falcom" erected in the corner of the store, with pretty much every boxed Falcom MSX game available for purchase (at reasonable prices, too!).

They also had a loose cartridge copy of Higemaru Makaijima MSX, which I'd just bought off of eBay like, a week earlier for about $20 more than what I would've paid if I'd just waited and bought it at Beep. So yeah, their prices are pretty reasonable indeed. (Even $300 for Space Manbow is comparable to eBay prices, sadly...)

I looked everywhere but could not find "A Life M36 Planet" sorry! Sad (I even took a picture of the cover with me in case I could not read the Japanese title Smile )

But in any case, for any one who is curious about the MSX stuff that can be found in Akibahara, I took a few pictures of the two main stores (Super Potato and BEEP) and put them in my DropBox public folder: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/y4tt3aj2pp6bw8j/AABXCIggjlmLcQEx9...

Perhaps they are useful to anyone visiting Akihabara soon :)

The prices are about this, more or less:
- lone cartridges: between 300 - 5000 yen ($3 - $50)
- cartridges with manual and cover (but without the plastic box): about 5000 - 75000 yen
- boxed games: these vary, from a very cheap 4800 yen (about $45) F-1 Spirit (see picture), to 40000 yen for some MSX2 games like Space Manbow, etc.
- MSX computers: I pictured a TOSHIBA MSX1 for 12800 yen (about $120), and all the way up to an MSX2+ Sony HB-F1XV for 128000 (about $1200). There were some cheaper turbo Rs but, without the box.

Holy crap, they've definitely got some new stock since October! 2980 yen for Burai is a steal -- I paid quite a bit more. Fortunately, the game is worth every penny (or every "yenny," I guess!). Wink
