Hi!

I'm new on MSX scene.
Reasons why I'm interest to MSX are here:
- Steve J. Gray is creating Video/Audio/RS232 cartridge for Commodore 128, 64 and VIC20 with MSX graphic and sound chips named VYMS
- I own MiST and can run MSX by that way - but have problems
- I want to test SymbOS on MSX (in MiST and fMSX emulator) 'cause it looks that Amstrad has not so good version of this OS and I'm developer of OS for Commodore computers - want to see it as competitor and what can I wait from VYMS cartridge when will be finished and if to add it to Commodore OS.

Problems:
1. how to boot into MSX DOS on fMSX? Always starts in MSX Basic
2. MiST has problem with loading BIOS and hangs - really don't know which version to use
3. How to install SymbOS in fMSX - it needs MSX DOS and how to create any harddisk image, or so...

Can anybody help me?
Thank you for each reply.

I have a harddisk image. I can delete everything on it and keep MSX-DOS on it to keep it bootable. I cqn then compress it and upload it to my google.drive account and give you the link so you can download it.
As for SymbOS I could install it and it worked fine in BlueMSX emulator on my PC but I still couldn't get it to work in openMSX on my Android mobile phone. Still trying to.

What is MiST?
Which chips are included in VYMS?

Eimaster: what exactly is the problem with openMSX?

MiST is an FPGA board; Mark "Lactobacillus Prime" Vergeer did a brief demonstration video on the MiST.

I guess MiST is this FPGA emulator: http://amigastore.eu/en/318-mist-fpga-computer.html

I have a strong feeling that fMSX is not good enough to run SymbOS. SymbOS uses custom I/O drivers while AFAIK fMSX does mass storage support by patching I/O related BIOS-routines. I think you need to switch to BlueMSX or openmsx emulator to actually get it up and running.

In order to run MSX-DOS2 and SymbOS you practically need to have in MSX2 emulator memory mapper (1MB is optimal) + disk drive + DOS2 ROM. (Some computers may have all needed included) Some sort of mass storage interface is also strongly advised... Most of them include the needed DOS2 ROM (or Nextor that is fine as well) Please see rest of the details from SymbOS installation manual. That is very well made and gives detailed information.

I think the MiST core is based on the OCM, but from reading on a few forums it might have issues.
Should you get it working I think you could just use the install guide from the SymbOS site.

p.s. 8bits4ever also sells a variant of the MiST (ST Mini).

I was curious about this too; it looks like a V9958 (although with only 64kb RAM when that page was written in 2016) and a YM2413.

VYMS project was updated.

To MiST: I got works MSX - but MSX3 ???? - is it correct? I never found that MSX3 exist - also it starts with MSX-DOS. But know not howto install SymbOS.
If you can upload your diskimage I'm thankful.
I can try BlueMSX or OpenMSX.

It's an unofficial logo by KdL.

As Manuel says, the official SymbOS site has a good install guide Smile
