Final Justice (MSX1) glitching up -- Issue with the game or emulation?

The glitch in action:

This happens at least when playing on openMSX with an emulated MSX2+ and Ren-Sha Turbo feature active. Haven't tested yet if this occurs with real hardware. It could be that the game just has issues when running on MSX2 or newer. I was wondering if anyone here would know/guess what the problem would be. Whenever this glitch happens, the game will eventually freeze completely, preventing you from beating it, so it's worse than only killing off the music.

I have tried both the original ROM release and the Disc Station #8 (disk 1) re-release. The glitch occurs with both.

Okay, after some testing in openMSX, the game glitches up when played on MSX2, MSX2+ or turbo R. If you play on MSX1, the game works just fine. Perhaps the game is not just suitable for anything but MSX1?

Since Disc Station 8 was released so much later, when MSX2+ machines were already available. The Disc Station cover says its meant for MSX2 and MSX2+, it would be strange that they included a game on double sided disks that does not run on anything other then MSX1.

They may have not tested the game thoroughly for the MSX2/2+. The game takes about 2 hours to finish and seems to play perfectly fine in the beginning. It's only after 20 minutes or so when the risk of game glitching up increases greatly.

You have take into account that Final Justice was several years old at this point, so Compile considered it as a retro game, and threw it in as extra without modifications. I doubt they tested the game a lot. They probably just checked that the game launches and played it very briefly.

It is very likely they indeed just created a disk version of the game and only tested if it would fire up. It’s probably fixable (gdx seems to like taking on these kind of challenges Wink).
