I tried to run Zanac-ex rom (Zanac-Ex (19xx)(Compile)(Jp-En)[a].rom) under fMSX, but after MSX logo the screen stays empty for about a minute, then some pseudographic symbols appear, and the emulator resets to MSX-DOS. Renaming the rom file to just zanac-ex.rom doesn't make any difference. What am I doing wrong? Should I use another emulator, and which one?

blueMSX or openMSX. Though chances are that the ROM you downloaded is just no good.

the [a] in the name says enough. Its a modified rom and 9 out of 10 times they won't work.

Welcome here, YuN! Smile2

Can you find in fMSX an option to set the ROM (mapper) type? If so: IIRC, Zanac-Ex is ASCII 16K type. Also note it's an MSX2 game, you don't have fMSX configured as an MSX1, right?

RetroTechie:
Yes, that was the case, thank you! It requires -rom 5 option in FMSX terms. Completed the game - still beautiful, even nowadays Smile
Any ideas about Aleste-g? (Aleste gaiten, IIRC). It also does not start; I tried all rom types, but here it did not help. Aleste 1 and 2 work well.

Never heard about them. Can you give me a link?
My OS is Win XP, BTW.

As well as Aleste 2. I run them the same way, Aleste 2 works, Aleste Gaiden does not.
