well, 5 more characters, to say the truth... you aren't considering 5way (the bullets of the 2 diagonal types aren't the same).

Unless 3 tiles are redefined when the robot flips. (Perhaps it is doable?)

I meant that there are 5 different chars for 5way bullet:

45 degree up bullet
30 degree up bullet
horizontal bullet
30 degree down bullet
45 degree down bullet

They are used both for left and right directions (they are not really mirrorshaped, but fast movements hide it)
Redefine 3 tile while flipping is certainly doable but without meaning: there could be in any moment bullets fired in both directions (you can see how it is easy to occour playing around on File-Hunter)

And anyway think about this:
You are jumpig and firing. So you can have the same type of bullets ( say 30 degrees and 45 degrees down bullets) both inside the falls and in air... redefinig the tiles to match the falls background means to have really weird bullets overlapped to the sky (white squares with a bullet inside?)...

If you do not plan to have software sprites for enemies and your current strategy is adequate for your needs keep your track and do not waste time reworking things that work already Smile

+1 to that. It is fun to discuss ideas here, and to compare how each of us do things. But ultimately, if the current way works, then that's it! Smile

Funny that you are mentioning it today. I showed this game at the Home Computer Museum in Helmond Smile

I understand that. It's just funny that we thought about this game on the same day.
We'll have to wait for thegeps to supply an update about the status Smile

Hi there. I resumed the project last week (it was paused to let me xomment and then release Freedom Fighter sources, and to collaborate with a friend who is porting Freedom Fighter to SEGA SG-1000/SC-3000).
Currently I'm working on the destructible objects (tile based) inside the map. I moved the compressed map from ROM to RAM to be able to overwrite the changed tiles. I'm trying to improve the management that it had on C64/Amiga versions: no more wrong blocks deleted or magically respawned when going far and coming back...
