Maybe someone can shed some light on this as i'm wondering in what CPU mode the Turbo-r is during the init of different cartridges/roms ?
If you put in a MSX2 cartridge can you aspect that it's always running in a z80 mode?

For what it's worth, I just flashed a game to my mfr (I randomly picked A1 spirit, probably since it's always on top of the list of files), reset the computer and the r800 led never went on.

Yes, you always need to ask for CPU change (see BIOS #180), if you need more speed.

Actually I don't want more speed, i want to be sure that it's in a z80 mode so it won't screw up i/o timing ;-)

MSX Turbo R boot in Z80 mode by default except if the ROM go to the Basic interpreter or to the MSX-DOS2.

Basic also boots in Z80 mode if a DOS1-formatted disk is inserted afaik.

Just curious, if i have a cartridge in slot 1 which is some small snippet of code which just switch to r800 mode and returns, will it make cartridge in slot 2 run in r800 mode, not on z80, after that?

Yes. You can easily test inserting MFR SD in slot 1 and another cartridge in slot 2. Boot holding F5 key to enable the R800 (or turbo mode in some Panasonic machines)

Ok, hearing the answers i think it's better to just put it in the z80 mode myself,. Just to be sure.
Looking forward to your test Pencioner :-)

I wouldnt turn the turbo off because then the user no more can use a turbo-on cartridge

test it on openmsx
cartridges dont get run in turbo mode

anyways why the worry, what hardware is there on the cartridge

what disk is inserted is a question that comes after cartridges
