I was super pumped to play the original Ys games on MSX, after trying the first one on openMSX I made a floppy and patched it with an updated translation (which looks like it improves the original Oasis one) and... it doesn't work with a joystick.
Does a joystick patch for the Ys games exist?
For what I could see, the game uses only two buttons (one for Ok and the other is F9 I believe which is for saving).
Ys is already playable with joystick. If I know which version you talk about you can use it over the Japanese version. Maybe if you put it over the Oasis one it will result in some bugs.
I can't find the translation patch website anymore, but it's the one made by 232 based upon the original Oasis translation which he then completed and fixed.
And, yes, I've applied it over the original disk image and it works, but when I tried it on my MSX (Philips NMS8255) I got stuck at the title screen, pressing buttons or directions didn't do anything and couldn't go further. The music just keeps looping over and over again and never gets me into the game.
On openMSX (with keyboard of course) the game plays fine, it just doesn't respond to joystick inputs.

EDIT: just to avoid ambiguity, I'm talking about Ancient Ys Vanished – Omen, the first one.
Can anyone make a quick workaround/hack for this? I remember someone did a similar hack for Knight Lore where an input from keyboard is needed at the beginning of the game to choose gamepad as input.
I do a similar hack for few Konami games, some other games, and recently Panique. It's a bit more complicated for YS because there is also the disc selection menu.
