Great article. Seeing the art gallery it looks clear how the MSX 2+ is underused by games.

For the same reasons screen 8 isn't used a lot: it'll cost you twice the VRAM compared to screen 5, with one byte per pixel there's also more CPU-load, and good game oriented pixel tools for the 2+ screens are few.

That's true, these modes are heavy lifting service for the old Z80 to deal, but games with few screen movement could be feasible.
