hmm.. lets ask it in another way. The ideal GFX for MSX tool. What would it look like to you? What features would it have? Which screen modes would it support? Or is a seperate editor per screen mode a must?

I would like to see a new version of AGE with layer support. Also, the animation features could be a lot better. Think timelines as used in flash or several 3D applications. That would be nice (and user-friendly). I also would like to see a GOOD editor for GFX9000. I now use Photoshop and Cinema 4D for designing and would like to use the real thing instead of converting pictures afterwards.

What would be really cool would be an integrated tool that includes the bitmap editing function of AGE, but allows to convert and edit blocks into other formats such as sc2/4 tiles or sprites. But all in the same interface, with copy/paste functions from bitmap to sprites to tiles. The tool would also detect the incompatibilities for bitmap to tiles or sprites. It would also use the "or" function for multi color sprites (one to 4 sprites). That would be really usefull for game design. Now if on top of that it can be integrated with a map / level editor, it would make work almost too easy Smile

yes, and a CreateGame(genre, difficulty, quality, price) function would also come in handy .. Tongue

Have you tried Tommy Gun IDE?, right now it's mainly spectrum oriented (although it supports via plugins some more machines); but IMHO it's potential is really inmense. The author needs only some feedback and maybe a bit of help to finally include the MSX support, it's the first in his to-do list Smile

Last version (I have'nt tested yet; but I hope that some nasty bugs that the previous versions suffers had been fixed now):

It's a serious contender, really...
