The only hybrid I know is masking the patterntable and then the sprites run wild - and only reason I know to go single charset is smoothscroller?Yeah, that's the trick they used. Maybe for allowing animated tiles, or to allow more than one sprite pattern bank, I don't know. Tongue

The sprite bug (on 99xx, fixed on 91xx) can be circumvented by only allowing sprites 0-7 in the upper area. I think the real problem Huey meant is that table masking doesn't work at all on Toshiba manufactured VDPs. Shame though if that's really the reason, because that VDP is not found in many MSX1s, maybe about 4% of them.

oh those lovely trees...
Well, those are among the many, many things which will stay the same. Wink
Just that they may have a little bit modified pallette, that's all.

retro competition: show what you can achieve on the old machines.
On MSX 1, the gfx are a show off versus the competition with ugly fatpixels Wink

WOW this is crying out loud for using the smoothscroller engine http://www.msx.org/forumtopic11100.html

It may be some work to add - but when "after starting with assembly" you shell out such game,
then you should soon have it up and running! :)

Done that, I envision that fat ass insect BOB coming down smoothscrolling, too. :) :) :)

1- The game will not run on all MSX1 computers due to the hybrid screenmode we use. <- This is the main reason.

Hmmmm... I don´t remember if those MSX1s were mentioned or not? What are those models?

MSX2 the hard way (need more work).

about hard way... on msx2 you have maintained the sprite ringbuffer for handling flicker? if yes, it's the same of msx1?
Maybe now it's more hard to use because of the need to move also the color attribute table. (512 bytes)

The color table is indeed a bit of a challenge. We still have to decide how we will implement. And what will work.

Gradiente's Expert Plus and Expert DD-Plus models also feature the Toshiba VDP inside their Toshiba T7937A MSX-Engine. Quite a lot of those machines were sold on Brazil.
