I think the gameboy has very small screensize, monochrome and actual gameplay video is jerky.

From the Wikipedia article that has info about Nintendo gameboy.

"CPU: Custom 8-bit Sharp x80 core at 4.19 MHz which is similar to an Intel 8080 in that all of the registers introduced in the Z80 are not present. However, some of the instruction set enhancements from the Z80, particularly bit manipulation are present. Still other instructions are unique to this particular flavor of x80 CPU. The core also contains integrated sound generation
RAM: 8 kB internal S-RAM
Video RAM: 8 kB internal
ROM: On-CPU-Die 256-byte bootstrap; 256 kb, 512 kb, 1 Mb, 2 Mb, 4 Mb and 8 Mb cartridges
Sound: 2 Square Waves, 1 programmable 32-sample 4-bit PCM Wave, 1 White noise. The unit only has one speaker, but headphones provide stereo sound (for further information, see Game Boy music)
Display: Reflective LCD 160 × 144 pixels
Screen size: 66 mm (2.6 in) diagonal
Color Palette: 4 shades of "gray" (green to (very) dark green)

So resolution is 160 × 144 with 4 shades of grey as color.I am not an expert coder but i assume msx could do something like that.
It's up to the more experianced coders and programers from the forum to tell us!

And does this game deserve to be ported to MSX? I mean that I don't know the game, but for me it doesn't look specially enticing.

I think TS isn't necessarily talking about this game running on MSX, but more about the question if a 3D FPS is possible on the MSX system and why it's never been done before. My best guess is that most coders don't expect it to be possible therefor haven't put tons of time in it. But if you look at the technical specs of a Gameboy one would start to wonder if that is at all true. Too bad I lack the skills to try it out Tongue

My question was more technical rather than referred to the game itself.
Is a GB that more powerful than msx2?

Power is too broad a concept to compare different specifications.

IMHO, as a former GB programmer and active MSX programmer (MSX1), GB is more limited but its hardware is specially designed for its funcion, making it a pure gaming machine.

I would say that GB is approximately equivalent to a MSX2/SCREEN 4, although the GB includes 3 graphic layers (scrollable background, window and sprites) whereas the MSX has only non-scrollable background (just hw vertical scroll in MSX2) and sprites. Of course, colour limitations do have some weight here as well.

Therefore, let's compare the best games of each machine. I'd say that MSX has better and more appealing games than GB, but once again, I'm partial in my opinions.

But we can assume that GB colour is a "gaming" only limited MSX2.

- Z80 has a more complete instruction set than GB
- GB clock speed is higher than MSX's one
- MSX has more RAM and VRAM than a GB
- Raw PSG is worse than GB's sound chip, although SCC and FM are far superior to GB standard hardware
- VDPs are totally different, altough they do include tiled backgrounds and hardware sprite layers, because colour/shades management differs

Here you are. Now it is your turn to decide.

Actually, Faceball 2000 was a great game. Specially because it was possible to play 4 player games, although I have seen it only one time and too many years ago (a school friend had the 4 player adaptor at home).
