You mean to tell me I need to open the cartridge cover, get some hardware to do the update? Please, can you send me link to where I can find these hardware? I thought I can upgrade the firmware from inside carnivore 2 using the software build into it. Didn't know I had to open the cartridge first
Well, did you put Nextor on the CF card? Otherwise it can't boot...
It boots. Nextor boots. And I have the firmware beta or laest version of firmware .pof. But I don't know how to flash the firmware.
The pod can't be flashed from the MSX, it needs a USB blaster cable and a PC, and you need to open the cartridge. Still, you could try to flash only the MSX ROM parts.
You mean the FMPAC.BIN and the rest of the BIN? If I flash these bins would it mean I am updated fine and don't need to flash the pof or I still need to flash the pof as well?
When you said ROM parts you mean the bin files that comes with the zip file right?
Would I get out of memory message if I do flash these bin? What if I did? What did I do wrong?
Concerning the POF one, can I flash it with the cartridge opened while hooked into the MSX and the MSX is powering the cartridge or it need to be removed from MSX and it need to be powered alone? Can you provide me the USB blaster and it's cable from eBay where I can buy it for carnivore2? Thanks in advance.
Yes, the files you must flash with the C2MAN program. I'm not 100% sure the latest work with the version of the POF firmware you have on the C2. My C2 has POF file 2.4 and the 2.5 MSX ROMs work fine with that. (Although some functionality that is new in 2.5 doesn't work of course.)
Perhaps Alexey can advise here.
So now I understand is upgrading POF is essential as it determines how far I can upgrade the bins themselves. If I am not mistaken, if my pof is that ancient, it may not accept the latest BIN and may output out of memory error. Best then to upgrade the pof before attempting to upgrade the bin
You guys are right...
Carnivore2 is fun for the geeeks AHAHAHAHAHAH
OK...can you please provide me link where I can buy the USB blaster for my carnivore 2 and also can I have my MSX power the cartridge while flashing it or it may damage the MSX? If it is advised not to have the MSX power it and it needs to be powered alone, can you please provide link of where I can buy the USB cable that will power this cartridge?
Thanks in advance.
Why do you need to upgrade the firmware? Sure it’s an old version but it should be perfectly functional right? It feels like you’re about to do a complex operation that won’t even address the original issue… I would first get the thing to work as-is.
I enter right into basic. I have the CF format it and partitioned as 16 MB from inside MSX itself and not even Windows. I toke the CF and extracted sofarun into the CF, then put it back into carnivore 2. As soon as I restart the MSX it finds the hard drive but goes right into BASIC and refuses to run SofaRUN.
Have you copied the NEXTOR.SYS and COMMAND2.COM files to the root of the CF card? These are required in order to boot into Nextor MSX-DOS2.
Agreed on that: don't update it yet... First explore it properly!
But I did. I am able to use sofaRun. I am able to go to nextor DOS. I have uploaded nextor and command2 and it works great. I am even able to flash ROM through sofaRUN and load. But....I think I may need to upgrade the fm-pac and other audios...because I feel new games that use fm-pac are using instructions in fm-pac that are in 2020 or 2019 and not in the old version that this carnivore2 have. Besides, wouldn't upgrade it completely means I have more features, bug fixes and possible even enhance games compatibilities. So what is wrong with upgrading it?
