That's probably the data of the preferences being messed up. Very easy to solve. After booting:
1. hit SHIFT-F1 (COLOR 15,4,7)
2. type: SET TITLE ""
3. type: SET SCREEN
4. try booting again with the reset button

Wow, that actually worked! There's no way that I could have figured that out on my own, but when you tell me, it's pretty easy. Thank you!

The boot screen still comes up with a red background. Perhaps because the drives are removed?

Now for the Carnivore2, not sure if this is the right thread, but it does boot up into a screen and it's plays music. I suppose this is the boot menu but I haven't put any software on it. I think I had my other computer I was using this with set incorrectly, either that or maybe I was dumb enough to not realize it had already been set up. Either way I'll have to get a flash card reader from the office to put software on here.

It’s not an error indication, the boot screen colour is configurable. Quoting the wiki page for SET TITLE:

Quote:

<LogoScreenColors> is a number to specify the type of logo screen:
1: Dark Blue background, MSX white logo in black rectangle
2: Green background, MSX white logo in light blue rectangle
3: Red background, MSX white logo in purple rectangle
4: Yellow background, MSX white logo in red rectangle

So use this to select the standard blue background boot logo sequence:

SET TITLE "",1

It happens when the battery is low (but not completely empty) after long time no use, then the RTC memory can get corrupt and you end up with weird screen and boot settings.

You do not necessarily need the ready signal on the replacement drive to just dump 1 image, but in the long run you would probably want it. Like I said you just have to boot with an empty disk in the drive and the machine will work.

Or use the right diskrom, then there is no problem with booting the msx.

The easiest way I got ready signal on a drive was to just bridge pin 34 to 33. Works a treat.

Just try any disk drive first and see what happens. Then we can determine the next step.

Would that be a Philips based diskrom?

Okay, so I bought a brand new, still sealed in shrink, NOS floppy drive. I got it and excitedly put it in my HB-F900. It wouldn't boot. So I turned the floppy drive cable around. Now it will boot, but it won't load a disk. If I type "FILES" in BASIC, it says "Disk Offline"

So, unless you can point me to someone in the US who will refurbish the original floppy drives, I've pretty much given up hope of dumping this game. I've spent a lot of time trying and I've thrown money at it too but this is a huge PITA and I don't even know if the disk is going to work in the end. All I've gotten out of this is pissed off.

Owning an undumped game is a curse.
