Happy new year

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERY BODY!

You might say that the year 2020 is the worst we can remember, with the whole Covid19 incident and all. True it's not the best year, but in the context of anything-MSX we might say otherwise. The number of games published, for example, are huge and what to say about new hardware. And MSXdev'20, which was one of the better episodes. MRC had loads of daily traffic member activity. All that for a system over 35 years old. Not bad, no sir. Welcome to 2021!

RIP Padial
Not all news is good news, however. We recently had to let a dedicated MSX user go.. MRC member Leonardo Padial Ortiz sadly passed away last December. A true pioneer in the field of MSX hardware. He will be missed, our hearts are with the family. Rest in peace mister.

MSX Resource Center
On a daily basis the MRC admin crew maintains a steady delivery of MSX love. In that, they are just humble servants. And with the turning of the year we like to show are gratitude to all who helped getting our MRC servers up-and-running by Donating a dime or two. By donating, we all keep the legacy alive. Also a big shout out to all whom submitted or participated in news posts.

In the spirit of Christmas, hamlet hosted yet another Christmas Quiz here on MRC. It might become a tradition, but this quiz is for hardcore MSX users. hamlet promised an easier version in 2020, but quickly broke his promise. Hardcore, indeed. The winner of this year's edition is MCR member defdanny, well done! Knowing how hard this quiz is, all hats are off to you.

MSXdev
One of the greatest coding contests for the MSX computer system is without a doubt the ongoing MSXdev series. This year was the 16th birthday for this game contest, and it had volume and quality like never before. With 21 final entries there's a good reason to celebrate this years dev. You can read all about the results in the news post on MSXdev'20. And, MSXdev'21 is already ON.

Software, hardware
If there's one thing that is at least interesting, it is the amount of new hard- and software we've seen in 2020! Especially the amount of new games that got released as a physical format, mostly cartridge. Looking at the software news section here on MRC, you can conclude the MSX system is far from dead. We could've spent a lot of money past year on just software. Don't tell the missus, though. Just tell her how lovely you think her new shoes are.

2021
What this new year will bring for us, MSX lovers, will be a surprise. As always. Luckily. One thing is for sure, the system will keep us tied together another year. Hope to see you plenty on MSX.org, the MSX Resource Center. Meanwhile, check your MSX calendar.
