I'm not sure if it's related, but in my recent experience with a similar setup but with a different game (Snatcher that is patched for SCC stuff), it only worked when there is a mapper. So I'm suspecting something to do with having not enough memory when there are many drives (Inc SD), or the patched game needs more than 64k?

I tried it on my turbo R with 512K as well. Ram was there Smile

Can I check that patched game that doesn't worK?

I can email it to you as well, if you'd like. Just let me know what email address to use.

Also, I grabbed the latest version of the patched rom from MP83 and tried it, and I'm STILL getting an "Error reading file" when I try to write it to the MFR with OPFXSD. So it wasn't just a bad rom on my part -- but the fact that you were able to write it to yours, Meits (even if it didn't actually run correctly), while I am not, is just very weird.

Figures that literally the ONE GAME I actually care about, over all others, would be the one that I can't seem to get onto this thing. Wink

Thanks for the reply, Manuel! Regarding this, however, I don't think the problem is related to the cartridge or slot being dirty, nor is it seemingly related to the SD card. I've cleaned everything thoroughly, and also tried different slots and SD cards, and the English-patched A Life M36 Planet rom simply WILL NOT install via OPFXSD -- it gives an "Error reading file" and exits the program every time. This is the only rom that's happening with, and I have no explanation as to why, but considering it's the game I hold nearest and dearest to my heart, it's rather frustrating!

The cartridge and/or OPFXSD does not care about what you are flashing. I mean, you can flash an AUTOEXEC.BAT file, or a JPG.
If you get an "error reading file", it is not related to the content of the ROM, but to the read process. That's why my guess was a problem in the SD card/ SD slot, or the computer/cartridge slot connector.

Can you send me the ROM so I can test it here?
Have you updated the cartridge firmware?
What OPFXSD version are you using?

I do understand that, but the thing is, it's ONLY A Life M36 Planet that's been giving me trouble here. Literally every other thing I've attempted to flash to the rom has been successful. And I've tried multiple versions of A Life M36 Planet, but every one I've tried has failed! So it seems to have something to do with this specific game, for whatever reason. Perhaps in conjunction with my MFR or my system (especially since Meits is able to flash it), but either way, the rom is part of the issue to some degree.

But also, I find that strange, since again, I own an older MFR as well that has no SD card slots, and I'm able to successfully flash these very same A Life M36 Planet roms to that one from floppy disk using OPFX without issue, and they play off of the MFR without issue.

It's been a while since I last emailed you, and you're not showing in my recent address book anymore, so I'll need a refresher on what email address to use for you. Sorry to keep asking people for their email addresses, but I also don't like the idea of sending roms to people unexpectedly if I pick the wrong email address, you know? Wink

I updated the cartridge firmware first thing when I received it, as I thought the cartridge itself was not functioning on my system (which I've now learned is due to the necessity of pressing Reset before my system recognizes it's there, which wasn't occurring on my old MFR).

And the version of OPFXSD I'm using is 1.9, downloaded directly from MSX Cartridge Shop. Admittedly, it might be the wrong version, since my MFR is older (it's one of the versions with 2 SD card slots, but no 512 KB RAM expansion), but it's the only version of OPFXSD I could find online, so I wasn't able to test with any older ones.

OK. I just wasn't sure if that's the email address you guys necessarily wanted me to use or not, and didn't want to assume! The email address on my profile page is valid, and I check it semi-regularly, but it's not my primary email address, so I thought the same might be true for y'all too. Wink

I'll send both the older and newer roms to both of you right now, though. Thanks!

I have tested both ROMs and work fine on my MFR SD and turbo R A1 ST 512KB RAM.
OPFXSD detects the right mapper (ASCII 8) and the flashing process does not gives any trouble. The game boots and works.

I also tested on my A1 WX (expanded to 512KB RAM) and also works fine.

Finally, I tested on openMSX (FS-A1 WX and MFR SD without RAM) and the game is flashed and executed without problem.

So I think it might have some problem in your configuration (computer/cartridge/SD card)

@Guillian: Did you test in DOS1?
