I was told by a collector there is a European version of Konami's Synthesizer - with different texts on the screen compared to the Japanese one.

I have never seen that version and I'm not even sure it's not a fake/hoax. Can anyone confirm?

A picture of a cartridge, yes, but the software itself was different as well it seems?

Never played around with Konami's synthesizer, but if it does not have lots of text, maybe the ROM is actually the same but only detects the country and changes the language accordingly?

This is how wast majority of Konami games (which are localized) work. I believe Metal Gear is the only exception to this rule (and a lot are English-Only, while Snatcher, SD-Snatcher and Metal Gear 2 are Japanese-only EDIT: and Majutushi and possibly some other games; but only Metal Gear has two distinct versions).

Actually... also Antarctic Adventure has both a European and Japanese versions of the ROM and so does the original Game Master.

rderooy: are you sure?? What's the difference?

Konami's Synthesizer does show a Japanese keyboard on a Japanese machine, but doesn't show Japanese text in for example the file menu.

As far as I know, there's only one version. Wim, what's the source of that collector's info? Does he have any proof to convince us?

Manuel: For Antarctic Adventure, when you get the map of the south pole which is written in Japanese (and has a different Konami logo). While the European version it says "S.Pole". There may be other differences...

For Game Master it is the title screen which is different.

These differences are independent of the MSX used (European or Japanese).

Have a look here for screenshots.

I think the S.POLE version of Antarctic Adventure comes from the Games Collection.

Hmm ok... Does anyone have the original European cartridge to verify?

Antarctic Adventure shows different flags on stage end when playing on either a japanese or a european msx, right?

I tried it.
Japanese ROM = 1st level is Australia
European ROM = 1st level is USA

This is regardless if your using a European or Japanese MSX. Also, the Japanese ROM has "keyboard" misspelled on the title screen.
