Philips VG-8235 and CD-i

I noticed on the Wiki that apparently it's possible to hook up a VG-8235 to a Philips CD-i player and I'm just wondering if anyone has ever done that or at least has a manual of somesort that describes how this is done. I know my uncle has an old CD-I player lying around that he wants to get rid of so I'm curious if this is indeed possible and if so, what I can do with it :P

Very first versions of CD-I were modular, so maybe it was intended to be used as a peripheral (connected to the MSX).

I guess a consumer model probably wouldn't be able to be hooked up to the MSX then... Well, I may pick it up this weekend so if I know the exact model I may be able to find a manual for it and see if that mentions MSX connectivity anywhere

I anyway find this hard to believe. There seems to be zero evidence of this. Also, what would the point be of hooking up a CD-I player to an MSX, even for development purposes? My guess is that whoever wrote this (the source seems to be the VG8235 entry on www.old-computers.com) was confused and was actually referring to the very rare Philips MSX CD-ROM interface.

VG-8235 release date/year: 1986

So imho the article makes ZERO sense, unless philips announced the cdi 5 years in advance (an eternity in computer life-cycle)

CD-i greenbook was already published in '86: Wikipedia - CD-i Greenbook. They also announced the CD-i that year.

Well it’s not unheard of, after all there is the NEC PC Engine (’89) development kit for MSX as well.

But I agree it does not seem likely without supporting documentation .

I stand corrected. Still I dont see how philips would have released/pushed such a functionality/concept in 1991, when they had newer msx2 models after the VG8235 (8245~8280), at a time when they already abandoned MSX and when the turbo R st was already released (1990).

I'd say Japan 1989 would be a different MSX world, compared to MSX in 1991 Europe. But yeah a good point.
