BTW, the current version of openMSX already comes with the AcidTest machines installed. You just need to find the ROMs.

Actually, I was just about to ask a similar question -- I'm currently using a Panasonic FS-A1WX Japanese MSX2+ system with the base 64kb RAM and 128kb VRAM, and when I attempt to play the game, it loads the title screen and story just fine, but as soon as I press the space bar to play the game proper, it either reboots my system (if I wasn't holding Ctrl on bootup) or freezes my system (if I was).

I do not own a MegaFlashRom or anything of the sort, so I'm stuck with the base 64kb RAM, but I assume that since this is a 32kb game, that should be enough. However, what I am running that might be problematic here is LOADROM.COM -- it's the only ROM loader I've ever used on my system, and while it's generally been able to play just about any 32kb or under ROM files I've thrown at it, there have been a few every now and again that just haven't worked.

Can anyone recommend a better ROM-loader that might have more luck running this game on a Japanese MSX2+ with the base 64kb RAM?

Thanks!

The problem could be in the ram usage. Probably the game is assuming as free, ram used by the disks.
Can you try the game disabling the second virtual disk? (Press CTRL at boot)

Yeah, I tried that -- when I don't hold Ctrl at boot, the game resets my system after the title screen. When I do hold Ctrl at boot, the game just freezes after the title screen.

Either way, it's a no-go.

It is definitely a ram problem.
Is there a way with loadrom to reboot the rom with all disks disabled?

I don't think so. As far as I know, loadrom is just a simple command-line program: you type "loadrom filename.rom" and it'll load filename.rom on the spot.

I've been told in the past that Loadrom is unreliable, though, which is why I figured I'd ask here -- there may be a better rom-loader to use that'll account for issues like this.

Santi have you ever tried msxomizer? It outperforms pletter but needs a small ram buffer to work.
It could be useful for saving some rom bytes

Played it on my HX-10 after converting it to CAS and using CASDuino. It's sweet.
