Raspberry Pi Zero in a keyboard

I bought a Pi Zero and I was planning to build it into an old USB keyboard.

Now I read up on soldering and the 4 USB colors and what pads I had to use on the RPi zero. And this was the conclusion that I came too.

Now I connected everything up and booted the Pi (note the keyboard worked perfectly with an USB OTG adapter) And it doesn't even seem to register the keyboard.

I connected everything back together as it was (original config) and the keyboard worked fine. I don't want to abandon this project since it would be nice to have an Rpi running openMSX inside a keyboard.

Any hint or tips would be appreciated as why this would not work and how to get it work. I'm not a super hero when it comes to electronics but I know my bare basics.

I would not trust that the keyboard colors are correct... Measure the other end that you clipped away to be sure... If still everything looks ok... just resolder.

So what was the issue?

I'm curious as I'm going to do my own project in a few weeks.

I tried to feed the keyboard trough the USB connection pads at the bottom. I switched to an approach where the Pi and the Keyboard are both fed by the same USB cable. So I have an unused power mini usb port left.

I'm going to add a switch to the data lines so I can switch between keyboard and USB OTG since it will be incredibly hard to get the SD card in and out of the Pi once it's in place.

Sorry for the bump but how well does openmsx run on a rpi zero? Interested in the same mod as you did (build it inside a keyboard).

what is your benchmark?
it runs acceptable on a rpi3 but for games i recommend the emulators included in https://retropie.org.uk/
