The MSX1 dos function get time (2ch) returns the current value of the system clock. Only very few msx1 models got a clock-ic. I guess that on most models the result of this function is zero?

no, without clock-ic, it returns a predefined date + time (time which countup during the machine is working). IIRC.
1984 maybe?.
