Hi guys,

I downloaded Star Avenger here (staraven.zip on Steve Wallis' website (WayBack Machine)) and could run it on BlueMSX (ver.2.8.2) without problem, but not on openMSX (not even the latest ver.0.12.0).

Does someone of you succeed into playing that .dsk image on openMSX? and if you do, what machine configuration did you choose? Thanks for any feedback, kindest regards.

Andrea

It seems in blueMSX it'll only run on an MSX(1) config.
Have you tried with an MSX(1) machine in openMSX?

edit: got it running with Gradiente Expert GPC-1 + Panasonic FS-FD1A (note that it's a DD disk).

ps. does anyone have an idea what can be regarded as the most common/universal MSX1 machine? (Or perhaps: the 'sweetest' one (to run inside openMSX))?
I reckon most MSX(1) models didn't come with a FDD built-in, and no MSX(1) model exist with a built-in DD drive, right? (I also wonder what the most common FD-extension was for MSX(1)? Smile) (Of course, that's region-dependent, and I guess it was common to buy the FD-extension of the same brand, or that was designed to go with the MSX model in question..)

Try the versions on my Eggerland site : http://eggerland.msxblue.com/

Original version works only on MSX1 because Steve Wallis did not want to include the 'universal poke' in the BASIC loader.

How do you know, he said that? Smile

The discussion that I had with him in another MRC thread was not very positive, he only listened to openMSX advices, not mine.

Ah, I didn't know that. I guess you're meaning this discussion then..

Thanks guys for the feedback, and

thanks ren, it worked for me too.

For the record, I did a few other trial-and-error tests and found that:

- it also worked with Philips VG8020 + ext. Panasonic FS-FD1A
- it didn't work with Philips VG8020 + ext. Philips VY 0010

That's because the VY-0010 drive is Single Sided (360KB) only.
(Where I mentioned 'DD' (Double Density) earlier, I actually meant Double Sided. (I believe the MSX spec only supports Double Density actually.))

Aha I see. A double-density thank you ren!
