Nah, upside down FDD cables do not harm the drive. I've done it before and nothing was broken.

You were so lucky, Manuel.
The drive will not be crashed but FDC (TC8566F) will be.
Also I have made FDC ruined in the same situation...

Well, the one in my Sony HB-G900P didn't die because of it.

In the drive of Panasonic, power lines are integrated in signal cable, different with most of other FDD.
For Sony HB-G900, power lines and signal lines are in independent connectors, as such as standard FDD.
Therefore, if you connect the signal cable in upside-down, power line will not be shorted.

Shit!! Oh well... I guess my only option at this point is to try to adapt the Samsung FDD for PC that I bought after reading the article about how you can modify it for use on an MSX2.

If the FDC had crashed, replacing FDD will not meet your expectation...
