Hi there,

I have tried several versions of emerald dragon, but the opening disk (disk 3) keeps crashing on openmsx with philips nms 8250 + fm-pac. Actually, the behavior is, first run it will reset after msx bootup, second run it will progress a little bit further, but then resets the msx again. When I try the turbo-r the demo runs without resetting. I also tried nms 8250 with fm-pac + 512 kb ram. Same result Sad
On my real nms 8250 the demo doesn't have this behavior and runs perfect.

Btw any idea what the game is about? Is it a "how to train a dragon prequel" Smile

So, what is the difference between your real 8250 and the emulated one? (So, what *exactly* is your real 8250? What exactly is plugged in, what exactly is modified on it, if anything?)

I got the same behaviour on openMSX, and saw that it doesn't crash when not using the fmpac.

Sorry for the late reaction, my real nms 8250 has an internal memory mapper with 256 kb ram. I didn't realize this crash was related to the fm-pac. I will try the fm-pac with it and will let you know.

Please always compare apples with apples Smile (Use the same configuration on real and emulated system.)

You are right, but in this case I can only test if the game crashes with fm-pac. If it doesn't crash, the only difference is the internal memory mapper and I don't know if openmsx emulates this ?

It requires changing the xml file which describes the machine. (Change 128 to 256...) But let's first see what happens when you plug your FM-PAC in the real machine.

well, well, I should apologize to openmsx. Apperently this game hates philips msx computers. Without fm-pac it works and with fm-pac inserted it crashes, although the game is made for fm-pac... Seems openmsx emulated this behavior perfectly Smile I must say the disk makes a lot of strange noises, like there are bad sectors. (tried several disks and dsk files).

Maybe somebody knows how to fix this issue in the game itself ?

openMSX has become so good that even the bugs are properly emulated. Smile

For a developer, this is an invaluable behavior.

Next up: emulation of I/O timing limits Smile.
