Eduardo Robsy (pitpan), initiator of the succesful MSX1 development competition MSXdev and (co)founder of Karoshi has decided to quit his activities as an MSX developer, leaving one last gift to the MSX community: a package of tiny projects and its sources.

It includes a fully playable Sokoban clone, a free-direction snake game, a playable MSX1 port of the MSX2 game Arrow of Direction, some graphics for a puckman clone and some amidar graphics test. It also includes Michel d'Alger's Robots. Turns out Michel d'Alger was an alter ego of pitpan after all.

Wow, what is there to say... thank you for everything you did for the MSX Community, Robsy. I hope you keep dropping by at msx.org every now and then and perhaps, just perhaps, we can tempt you to create something for MSX again.... one day.

Respect for sharing your work-in-progress projects and sources. Head up high, eh? :/

Another big loss for the community after the closure of http://z80st-software.blogspot.com/

Thanks for sharing your work with us and your role in MSXDEV. I hope the retirement will only be temporary :-)

You can find SapphiRe daily on #msxdev @ rizon. Altho he's very busy lately, his MSX developments are ongoing.

Very good to hear he is still active. I guess I got confused by the following posts:

And the message on z80st's pages:

I've read the announcement on Karoshi a couple of weeks ago, but I only understood half of it (due to google translate), so I'm not too sure why he stopped.

It's a loss for the MSX community if he leaves, from the very few posts we've had it seems to be a very cool person. Smile2

Was actually planning a newspost on this, but I'll put it on hold until we know more. SapphiRe's most recent modification to this wiki seems pretty clear though. All upcoming products canceled, no activity expected in the near future. Let's call it a well deserved break, then? :/

PitPan, a big thank you here from Italy for all your artwork,
and for the concept and atmosphere of MSXDev!

Sometimes I think that many will retire from MSX development
for 10/20/30/40 years in order to live their mature age, but will
be back at MSXDev after retirement, with great experience and
spare time to spend.

I hope so; can't imagine the wonders they (we?) could code Running Naked in a Field of Flowers Smile

I liked the smoothly moving snake demo, where snake can be rotated freely, instead of four directions as usually. Smile

I hope all versions of waver are still available somewhere, including the one which showed moving colour stripes during loading. Did robsy ever made the version where user could choose those colours?

Let’s hope so.

Will someone take over the organisation of the msxdev competition? I think it has always been a big boost to the MSX development community and as someone on the sidelines I was always amazed at how much entries were made. It would be a shame if it would stop.

It hadn't been organized by Robsy in many years, so...
In your absence it did stop, so we started #msxdev Compo but unfortunately almost all the spanish developers are avoiding it for some reason, even with the likes of viejo_archivero promoting it. Within a few weeks MSXdev'xx was restarted by popular demand, but instead of simply joining #msxdev Compo, people are again lobbying for relaxed MSXdev'xx rules... *sigh*

Not a few weeks, but 2 days :

10/03/12 : end of the formule with a jury composed with 3 judges http://msxdev.msxblue.com/?p=1521
11/03/12 : MSXdev'12 organised by Karoshi boards is announced http://msxdev.msxblue.com/?p=1535
12/03/12 : MSXdev'12 launching http://msxdev.msxblue.com/?p=1545

You should maybe think that many people dislike some of the #msxdev Compo rules.

That's the only word that you can say when are placed before your own lies and/or contradictions. At least, BiFi has never used lies or insults against me. For this reason, I will consider pseudoMSX as the result of a great work made only by BiFi. You don't deserve any kind of credits as long as you are spreading lies about MSXdev'.

@mars2000you:
You are trying to hide the fact that you communicated the end of the MSXdev' competition a long time before the deadline. It wasn't until this fact became clear that #msxdev Compo was started, and then LATER a new organizer revived the MSXdev'12 compo.

You are also trying to hide that you then HIJACKED the msxdev.msxblue.com domain name and started to use it for different purposes, without permission from the MSXdev' team. People still hate you for this.

You are constantly trying to spread FUD about the #msxdev Compo, even though the MSXdev' organisation encourages people to join it. You are also damaging it in other ways, such as IGNORING ON PURPOSE a lot of the entries on your hijacked site because "they are not games".

#msxdev Compo and MSXdev' are friends. You are no friend to either.

That's not correct. At some moment in 2011, my Dutch partner in the MSXdev' team has me informed that he should stop his participation at the end of MSXdev'11 (deadline 31/01/12). I've have then contacted someone to replace him for the next editions, I had an agreement, but at the moment that I wanted to prepare the MSXdev'12 launching, and that's in March 2012, it seemed that it was impossible to work with this person. That's why I've decided to stop my activity as organizer and 2 days later, the Karoshi Boards have decided to organize MSXdev'12.

That's also incorrect; it's an agreement between the Karoshi Boards and myself. I've precised at that moment (in 2012) that the site will continue as as archive site for MSXdev' and as news site for other game contests. No-one in the Spanish community has protested against that.

I will not explain why a site about new games (since the beginning of the MSXdev' team, but also in the previous version made by Pitpan) is not the best place to include demos or tools. They don't have been ignored, as you can find LINKS to extended reviews of these demos to my main site (but you don't like reviews probably !). For the rest, you are unable to accept any critic about #msxdev Compo organization, it's directly viewed as FUD, it's your problem !

eg. I know for a fact that MSXdev' organisers are opposing your use of the domainname, but they don't want to get into a fight with you. Your displayed behaviour would make anyone who treats MSX as a hobby agree with their assessment.

I'm owner of the domain name (msxblue.com) and msxdev.msxblue.com is hosted as sub-domain. If what you say is correct, then I could change msxdev.msxblue.com into for example msxgames.msxblue.com, but there's a condition : I need a private request from Viejo_Archivero, I need indeed a proof that you are not inventing something.

As I've been mentioned, there I go:
1. MSXdev organization loves #msxdev compo, and encourages officialy that every developer who's not confortable with MSXdev rules join #msxdev compo instead.
2. Afaik #msxdev compo loves MSXdev contests too: we have different approaches, but the same goal of boosting MSX productions.
3. Benoit, I already told you in private about the constant and fast newsfl00ding about the MSXdev in your site and, although we agree and appreciate that you host and archive past games (as ex-organizer), the official source of MSXdev information is, since some years, the MSXdev Community. Enough said, as we discussed it in private, and everything's fine since then (at least, I am happy with how things are going right now).
4. Please, back on topic. Pitpan has left MSX development (but I hope he comes back soon ;D), and we should try to keep the MSX spirit, not spoil it! Running Naked in a Field of Flowers
