Please confirm that when you connect RGB monitor (TV) you see the picture OK, and that you hear sound through RGB connector (pin 2) OK.

It might work since they show variations, but I don't know. I don't have an RGB monitor/TV, neither have an RGB cable. I highly suspect the encoder chip is faulty. another possibility is the VDP, but from what I heard it is uncommon.

Very low probability that VDP is bad. As guys said in other thread, machine depends on interrupts. You need to build RGB cable to test if RGB works. It seems it should as per what you describe, but you should prove it. Jipe noticed missing C14. It is in audio circuitry, so should not impact image. Note: decode in your machine works in NTSC mode (I think it is correct as you are in Japan).

What to recommend here... probably the best course of action is to take water-damaged machine, and if its HIC-1 board is not affected by water, and all components are in there, just replace with it - and see result.

Is there some good chance that this kind of very small caps like these be faulty? I'll try to check them, i need to get capacitance meter, my DMM doesn't have that.

I can only see the solder of the chip from above, looks dull but fine, and it is returning voltage upon checking. though I can't see under the HIC-1 board, because it is soldered above the mainboard.

I cannot find Jipe comment about C14, but i understand what he meant, I noticed that and seems strange.

I keep watching a Japanese auction site for MSXes, but never seen a seller declares their MSX to be water damaged. most of those MSXes sold as is and usually by online second hand stores. their usual line is junk, cannot verify if it works, no claim no return. I ended with one such MSX, but that one is Sanyo MSX2+.

Guess what? I heard sound of some metal rolling inside the case when I was moving it, I thought a screw, but turned out it is the missing capacitor.

Oh I thought it was the same model... then no way to exchange the board.

I have several MSXes now as result of trying to get at least one working. I have two of the same model HB-F1XD. and then the sanyo which is beyond repair as the board has severe damage , though it shows black screen at least lol one hb-f1xd shows video and works, but has problems, it freezes possibly because of cartridge slot B, second issue is the keyboard connector there is damage to the plastic, and can't push the keyboard connector deep, which makes many keys not work. I'm trying to fix this, hence I'm reluctant to use the board of this one, since it is not really damaged.

Problem I don't have monitor with rgb input, so I need to make an rgb to vga or buy one. so far I haven't found one such cable for sale. what's the easiest to make, rgb to vga or rgb to component or svideo? what do you suggest?

Do you have a TV? Do you watch news sometimes? If yes, does it have SCART input?

Yes I watch TV. My TVs don't have scart European or Japanese (a.k.a. rgb 21), my living room TV only have hdmi, vga, composite and D-tanshi. and my old TV has composite and svideo. I think TVs with scart is getting extinct, I have never seen one in any store I visited online or offline.
