Where to find Maki-chan files

The author of the Xee image viewer kindly added support for the Maki-chan (.MAG, .MAX) image files. Now he wants to test the implementation against more files.

Do you know any repositories of MAG files? Do you have any MAG files that are not available on the Net, to contribute?

The only .MAG files I've seen came from MSX-MAGAZINE and MSX-FAN. The .MAG extension is supported in the Animecha graphic editor but only Screen 5. In case you don't find an acceptable number of images, you could load any MSX image and later save as .MAG.

However, all of these MAG files are probably 16 colors.

MAG is a very old format.
Many MAG files would have been discarded.

Using a converter (for MSX, MS-DOS, or Windows) might be better.

Thanks for your help, umaiboux! Since most of those sites are in Japanese, it's hard for us westerns to find them using Google.

That's exactly the idea! Once Xee is able to load MAG files, the user will be able to save the image on a more modern image format. And that without having to use the old cumbersome DOS tools currently available on the Net.

There's also the japanese PIC files, which where very common on the X68000 platform. Do you also know sites that offer those PIC files for download?

I also got some files with the ".PI" extension and they're different from the ".PIC" files. Do you know what they are and how to read them? In this case, the file header contains the string "PiMag2Pi XPST".

I found some files using the Q0, RGB and Q4 extensions. Do you know where I can find the tech document for these formats?

The Japanese Wikipedia has some info on those:

According to the ja.wikipedia.org, RGB and Q0 are RAW formats. They are uncompressed. 24bit per pixel.
By default, Q0 has 640x400 pixels.
In order to specify the image size, ipr file or fal file is needed. Here is the simple information of them.

However, it is not possible to identify the format from extension only. Different formats may use same extension.

Thanks again! I'll have a look at the other tools.

BTW, I've already tried XnView, but it can only load MAG files from the PC98. There's no support for files generated on X68K or MSX.
