Space Manbow poll down, MRC2k11 poll up

Welcome to the first poll of the new era, the era of MRC2k11. That's about all there is to say, because the rest remains the same. Quite a few months ago we started a poll about Konami's exciting shooter Space Manbow. A marvellous game, but on MSX2 it does have a shaky border. But, do we care? After 94 votes, here's the outcome:

No 68.1% (64 votes)
Yes 22.3% (21 votes)
What's Space Manbow? 9.6% (9 votes)

Clearly, the vast majority isn't bothered by it. Perhaps this has something to do with the (often) dark backgrounds and the fact that it's so easy to die that no one has time to study the sides of the screen anyway. Konami has made the right choice: no sprites have been hurt in the creating process of this game. It would make a great legal note on the box of their game. Perhaps it's a useful signal towards developers in our scene too, many people can apparently live with a shaky border. If the two extra sprites on a row make up for better game play, by all means: use them.

And now the new poll which everyone could have seen coming. For some time already we presented you with our new website that has technically been in the making for 2.5 years. Do you like it? Do you find the wiki an inviting concept? Do you miss the old website already? Can't you wait until MRC2k17 will be released? Perhaps you should use MRC2k11 for a while until you will let us know.

Anyway, nothing is completely black or white. You can find some things better and other things not better. It can even apply to the members of the MRC crew : some have and keep a positive spirit, others have and keep a negative spirit.

Nothing is perfect, but such a poll is useless, comments and reactions in the forum are more appropriate, at least if you feel that you have something important to say and if there are enough chances for your suggestion to be taking in consideration.

Don't forget one thing : MRC is not the center of the MSX universe, there are many other interesting MSX websites (not all in English, but seriously, Google translation is very helpful !).

Most polls are useless anyway, so that's not a showstopper This poll is a good one to restart our polls with, though. And if you have better suggestions for a poll, let's hear them!

Also, feel free to place comments and reactions here or in the forum (like Lord_Zett did) if there's something on your mind that you want to share. Even if we don't like it (I don't like that Lord_Zett thinks the new site looks like crap), you're still free to discuss about it.

What I think would help is not saying "the site looks crap" but saying "I would like to see <this and that> changed into <such and such>". So make clear what you want to have changed (and why). Saying that it looks crap is not something I would know what to do with if I were the designer. Change it... but what part exactly? And into what? What is the part that was so crappy and what was so crappy about it?

The reason why we picked these options is simple: they are exactly the same options that we used in the poll when we launched 2k2. ;)

and for others negative reactions is a reaction to dont do only positve reactions is crap.

Zett: how about making a screenshot of this MRC, load it into photoshop, and alter the colors (but not the layout)? So, hue shift, invert, select + paint/gradient.. whatever you think is better. At least I'd like to see what you consider 'good'..

Aw, come on, just vote something! It's not as if there's anything important connected to it, it's just a for-fun poll

If you dislike the colors that much, you can always install a plugin to disable the stylesheets and view it in print version mode

The new site is terrible. Just terrible. The gigantic margins are a huge waste of screen space, the backdrop chokes things up so badly that I had to specifically block it to make the forum usable (and this is on a 2009 computer, I shudder to think about people still using old P4 boxes - oh wait, I use one of those too, and it was even less usable there,) the new comment box abandons BBCode for no reason which means you have to enable Javascript to have any formatting whatsoever, and the overall visual organization is a mess of poorly-separated and identically-formatted elements (why does there need to be a four-square of identical boxes for four different types of update messages?) It's damn near unusable, and it's the primary reason I've hardly been here at all since the start of the year.

Oh, also? Lightboxes can go to hell. A YouTube link is supposed to open a YouTube page, not poorly overlay one on the current page - especially not when I middle-click it to open it in a new tab.

Remember, kids, if you're reimplementing basic browser functionality, you're doing it wrong.

I just clicked one of the movies in our YouTube column, by rightclick-menu. 'New tab' did open it in a new tab, and 'new window' did open it in a new window.

Anyway.. you stated 'middle click', isn't that the configurable click, as typically only left click and right click have a standardised meaning? How did you configure your middle click?

Middle-click is set to open a link in a new tab, it's the default setting in every Windows browser I've used since Firefox 1. Ctrl+click also opens the lightbox instead of a new tab, and that's most definitely a standard. Right-click menu does work, but the whole point of shortcuts is so that you don't have to navigate menus for everything every time.

Notwithstanding your mildly offensive and trolling tone, I made some changes to the way the lightbox opens. It should now only open with the left mouse button. If it doesn't work immediately, clear your browser cache. As I neither have Windows nor a middle mouse button, I can't test it myself.

I'm not trolling. If I'm being crotchetier than is entirely warranted, it's because I'm a bit cheesed off at unnecessary changes to things that worked perfectly well before.

Anyway, it works in Firefox 1.5 but it's still broken in Opera and K-Meleon (yes, the cache is clear.) Haven't had a chance to test it with Firefox 3.6 yet.

It works fine in Opera/Mac here, so it must be a specific setting or Windows thing on your end... Anyways, thanks for testing.
