Hello all,

So after not using my Sony HB-F1XDmk2 MSX2 machine for some time, I pull it out again only to find out that the floppy drive is dead. The belts aren't moving, the disk isn't loading, etc. It worked fine the last time that I used it. What steps should I take to start fixing the problem? Is it as simple as replacing a belt, or could it be worse than that? Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the link! Unfortunately, even after swapping out the disk drive, it still seems to behave in the same manner. The drive light will come on, there will be a few clicks, and then nothing.

But is that drive working on a msx?

Good point. I suppose I can't use just any diskdrive with it, can I?

No, you need a drive that works on a msx, and switchable between a and B
Pc-drives are normally jumpered on B, but not all drives have a jumper for A

A new drive that works in it with four (4) solderings is an Samsung FDD intern SFD 321B
Then you have make an mechanical modification for eject button to fit properly

Solderings? Does that mean I would have to modify it before putting it in the MSX?

Yep, you need to move a SMD resistor to make it use the READY signal, change a bridge to convert it to A: drive and last, remove the HD sensor (not strictly needed)

Could someone post more detailed pictures with markings showing the parts to be modified: the SMD resistor, bridge and sensor, please?

Can anyone provide any details on how to modify Samsung FDD SFD 321B to work with Sony MSX? Thanks!
