Hi,

I saw the MSXdev'11 project and had this great idea in mind: MSXDev '12 with games only for MSX3, which is available with the following configuration in the OpenMSX emulator. So everyone with or without these hardware can benefit from it. Just develop it on MSX or OpenMSX!

I suggest this configuration to be MSX3:

- MSX turbo R (both ST and GT)
- GFX9000
- MoonSound (640kB min.)
- IDE CF

Who will join the club? Smile Let us have great pieces of games for the V9990 we never saw until now...

I wouldn't recommend to collect the term MSX3.

I wouldn't recommend to collect the term MSX3. Sorry, but why not? It's easier to say MSX3 instead of MSX turbo R + V9990 + OPL4 + Compact Flash. By the way, if the MSX3 was released in 1992, it would have R800 + V9978 (V9990). So, with this configuration, we finally have our MSX3 already. Only problem in the 90's was we had a vicious circle of not having software for V9990 because not many people did have these expansions. Now, everyone can have this configuration with the real hardware or just with the OpenMSX emulator on PC. Just download the application manuals and program for it! Smile See below for download link. Or if assembly isn't familiar, people can create their programs with G-BASIC / PowerBASIC for V9990. Maybe it's even possible to extend the One Chip MSX with support for MSX turbo R, V9990 and OPL4.

I think of great games like Prince of Persia... Smile If you like you may mention this configuration also as "MSX turbo R FS-A1XT" where XT stands for eXtra Technology Smile
So, let us have new entries for MSX turbo R FS-A1XT with MSXDev'12. Anyone interested?

Application manuals can be found here: www.msxarchive.nl/pub/msx/docs/datasheets/

@auroramsx: this is a old question. i remember a old forum where some msx doctors said "its not possible on msx". Honestly i cannot understand why. I have seen a CPC version, so why not on msx? The cpc has no hw sprites, no hw acceleration, only a z80 and a PSG...

No matter the possibilities of the G9k and the Moonsound and the added speed of the R800.. making a game is still tough.

It's not a question of easy or easier than whatever. As the MSX standard is still owned by someone or by some company/organisation -- BTW, does anybody know who currently owns the rights on MSX? -- and as we have that version numbering already, it may infringe their legal rights. Regardless of that, it is highly misleading, because one might think on a new version of the standard, which it is not.

Have you ever considered that the current owner of MSX might want do issue a real MSX3 in the future, just waiting for the right moment? Remember the retro-scene, which wasn't that strong some years ago. So collecting the term MSX3 isn't a good idea at all, especially if you want to really adhere to the standard.

By the way, if the MSX3 was released in 1992, it would have R800 + V9978 (V9990). So, with this configuration, we finally have our MSX3 already.
Unfortunately -- or fortuneately? -- it wasn't. And you really don't know what it would have been, if there were an MSX3 in 1992. A configuration of is not a new stage of the standard, its just a configuration within a certain stage or version of MSX. OPL4 is some user hardware, right, and Compact Flash wasn't even available back then.

Only problem in the 90's was we had a vicious circle of not having software for V9990 because not many people did have these expansions.
Most of us, including me, couldn't afford such hardware back then. As I first read of Turbo R in MSX-Contakt back then, I thougth this MSX is just a computer for japanese gamers. IIRC, the article said that not even a disk drive is included/available for that MSX. So, for me, Turbo R wasn't interesting at all. Sorry, all the Turbo R fans.

Now, everyone can have this configuration with the real hardware ...
Really?

... or just with the OpenMSX emulator on PC. Just download the application manuals and program for it! Smile See below for download link. I use blueMSX, and I'm not in the situation to nor does I like to change that in the overseeable future. Assembly is familiar, but not G-BASIC. I'm not inclined to learn another BASIC variant anymore. That's a waste of time. So if there isn't a Turbo Pascal extension for that, it isn't interesting at all. As the OCM FPGA chip dosn't have that much CLB's even at the time the OCM was issued, I don't think so.

If you like you may mention this configuration also as "MSX turbo R FS-A1XT" where XT stands for eXtra Technology
So why do you want to make up a misleading term?

I personally will not see a GXF9000 or even a moonsound as some ingredient for a MSX3 system Sad
There nice extensions that's for sure but a MSX 3 will need some more, maybe i can show some of my idea's during the next Nijmegen meeting but no guarantee Wink

Everybody has his own idea about what MSX3 should be. Some even use this name and MSX3 logo for their hardware projects. Try searching MSX3 with Google and you will get the idea about how this non-existing name is being misused. I don't think it is a good idea to add another misuse to this list.

Here are the examples:

Educational hardware project called MSX3: http://www.ccas.ru/brychkov/msx3.html
MSX2 with LCD and SymbOS is an MSX3: http://www.msx.org/forumtopic8944.html
1chipMSX as MSX3: http://www.msx.org/forumtopic6441.html
