US Department of State - Travelers Guide
...In addition, due to serious incidents in the past few years, including the downing of a police helicopter, the U.S. Mission to Brazil has restricted helicopter travel within the city limits of Rio de Janeiro...
...In Rio de Janeiro, crime continues to plague the major tourist areas...
...RIO DE JANEIRO: The city continues to experience a high incidence of crime. Tourists are particularly vulnerable to street thefts and robberies in areas adjacent to major tourist attractions and on the main beaches in the city. Violence and crime are most likely to occur in establishments and neighborhoods near favelas without a visible police presence. In August 2010, 10 armed gang members entered a popular five-star hotel in the wealthy Sao Conrado area of Rio after a firefight with police spilled into the hotel....
But hey, those are just some tea-party mormon scared comments made by red-neck Americans, right? It's really not that bad...

Quite accurate information. But outdated. Facts are:
1) Crimes are rampant in Rio de Janeiro, due to slums where polce can't enter.
2) Government occupied most of these slums.
3) Criminals got crazy and started terrorist attacks on cars and buses in a desperate attempt to stop the government occupation.
4) In a response, government called all militar forces to occupy the remaining and most guarded slums. Today we did not get a single incident.
BTW, I live in Rio de Janeiro, not in another state.
you are being very naive and simplistic, leandrocorreia.
you fail to see the true problem. your government isnt better then the criminals and the criminals didn't just suddenly "got crazy".
but suppose you were right:
where your perfect government intends to put all this thousands of criminals? kill them all?
wow! today there where no exploding cars in the news in rio! that's truly fantastic.

It's amazing how I live in the city of Rio de Janeiro and still you can realize the problem better than me. Just watch the news and try to think how an army of drug dealers can work without guns, territory and with their lords transfered to federal prisons in other states without communication, all this while trying to confront all the police force (including retired ones who volunteered), feds, army, navy and air force.
But perhaps I'm being too naive and simplistic in trying to convince someone who is most interested in keeping this topic off, just because of a twisted need of cyber attention. Don't expect any other answer from me in this topic, Lionel and Muffie.
nah, you now are just making personal attacks and are introjecting my GENERAL comments of the situation in rio (in tv and newspapers its just war and car explosions and tanks in the streets all the time) as if they were personal attacks. i refuse to discuss this any further, too.
Let's organize a MSX fair in baghdad.
There's retro gaming activity in Iraq: http://toucharcade.com/2010/01/16/amigas-unreleased-babylonian-twins-heads-to-iphone/
Of course, terrorists are only bombing pretty much everything because the US troops are there.
1) Crimes are rampant in Iraq, due to slums where US troops can't enter.
2) Now they occupied most of these slums.
3) Terrorists got crazy and started attacks on cars and buses in a desperate attempt to stop the US troops occupation.
4) In a response, US troops called all forces to occupy the remaining and most guarded slums. Today we did not get a single incident.
Look the Easter Bunny!
