paraMSX 0.46b

When looking at the paraMSX website you'd think version 0.42 was the latest version released. Regular visitors of the MRC already know the paraMSX website contains an open dir where more recent versions of this Korean MSX emulator can be found, the most recent of which is paraMSX 0.46b. This is the version we are putting to the test right here.

Audience Questions Q: In which way is MSX player different then existing emulators? A: We talked to many people, it is not really different.

Q: If you start putting it up, the MSX server, you need a massive website, how to do that? A: Don’t know. Q: Nobody is working on it? A: No. Q: But you need a rather complex site to enable all developers to be a seller A: We do not know yet, if it is going to be a server everywhere or a little site. But the server will be massive.

RedMSX is a Brazilian MSX emulator based on blueMSX 1.0.5. The emulator comes with a simple, easy to use GUI that offers all the features a novice MSX gamer could wish for. One of the most interesting things we noticed while testing the emulator is that it uses a lot less CPU load than all the other emulators in this test.

RuMSX was the first MSX emulator capable of emulating the Panasonic MSX turboR computer. For this, and its straightforward user interface, it gathered many fans around the world. RuMSX comes with a nice Installshield installer which makes it very easy to get the emulator up and running. Its GUI is, indeed, very intuitive.

To see how good an MSX emulator actually is we calculate its MRC EmuRank, using various methods of testing. We don't only test the accuracy of the emulation, but we also have a look at features, usability and music quality. The testing methods used to calculate the MRC EmuRank are described below.

Zodiac 0.8.1

Zodiac is a Japanese open-source MSX emulator in an early stage of development. Unfortunately, it has been a while since there was any activity reported on this project. The current version only emulates one MSX computer system: An MSX2 with 256kB memory and an MSX-MUSIC audio expansion. It can be started from the commandline, allowing you to run ROM and DSK images.
