Yes, it has undergone quite some evolution.
Please use certain English terms with certain caution though, AFAIK a 'tale' is usually something that's not true.
Yes, a tale can be true, but it doesn't have that connotation.

"Tell tales" ("out of school") >> Uit de school klappen.
I don't believe any hint at dishonesty was intended.
No no, I didn't think so too, don't worry, hahaha!
Just joking. If you'd said 'fable', then I may have really thought that.
I know I either slapped out of the school, talked past my mouth, or went outside of my book, at least I didn't stab the dragon with you or knitted something to your sleeve.
*sigh*, how limited English can be sometimes...
A smooth and colourful multilayer scroll as shown above is totally impossible on MSX (any version, except perhaps using one of the more recent graphic cards).
Allow me to disagree. Ball Quest features a smooth and colorful multilayer scroll.
I haven't played the game entirely, nor have I disassembled its source, but this game doesn't look like multilayer scrolling, or scrolling at all. I mean: the effect looks great, but it seems to be a (very limited) number of screen 5 YMMM copies over a static background. I don't believe any scrolling register is used at all.
This is not what I meant with "smooth and colourful multilayer scroll", I should have been more precise in saying that 1) two 'layers' should scroll at different speeds and 2) both layers should cover a substantial part of the screen. And even 3) both layers should considerably overlap in the vertical axis. That's the challenge I'm looking forward to seeing results in on MSX, otherwise I could also have mentioned Circus Charlie already LOL!
What about Moon Patrol?
I don't have the game at hand right now, but I remember it as a blocky 8px scroll, with the layers non-overlapping. Especially given the monochromatic landscape this game would have been feasible on MSX1 with multiple smooth scrolling layers (à la Malaika); much like the arcade version (but a bit less colourful).
It is a fine game, but no technical miracle where scrolling is concerned.
I think the scrolling in the space Manbow game is also very cool. Specialy the rocks in level 1

Nope, the scroll isn't 8x8... unless you count the floor.
I know the layers don't exactly overlap - but it's a fine scroll, multi-layered, and I think one of the best examples of what you could get on MSX1.
1px scroll on MSX1 with overlapping isn't feasible - unless monochrome like that - due to color clash.
Moon Patrolyes :) and even nicer on the coleco, technically possible on msx1 too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9vzGjMALM4

Really nice! But I would prefer a mix of those too... the jump sound (and the sounds in general) on Coleco is awful and the enemies much better defined/animated on MSX - but the car animation is much better on Coleco (the wheels actually touch the ground), and the background scroll is smoother and even have animations!
