Hello,
I’m trying to update my C2 with 2.40 firmware to install the 2.50 firmware.
I bought an USB Blaster on aliexpress and after 2 months it finally arrived …
Now I have several problems :
On Windows (using VMWare fusion as I’m running a Mac), if I install driver from Quartus II, then plugging my USB blaster is causing BSOD, according to some forums, it happens with some USB Blaster clones, I used a driver given by someone and no more BSOD but programmer app can’t see it.
I tried on Linux but even if it is seen now, I have a « Can’t access JTAG chain » error (from both command line and application methods). I checked connection and voltages using tester and everything should be ok.
Do anyone managed to update his C2 using this kind of USB Blaster clone ?

Does anyone have a link to buy a compatible USB Blaster ?

I have revision C of USB Blaster and it works properly. Get a Windows-based computer.

There are several designs of USB Blaster clones (all in the same kind of cases and all called "revision C"), some are causing BSOD on windows based computers too : https://www.eevblog.com/forum/microcontrollers/quartus-usb-b...
It looks like the clones with this internal design are working well :

I'm pretty sure that it's the kind of clone you have.
I'm using a lot of usb devices on my virtual machines (including some other JTAG adapters like ST-Link v2), and they are all working, and the problem I have doesn't seem to be "virtual machine" related
I'll try using Windows 7 as people seems to say that the issue happens with windows 10 on these devices.

I tried with a real windows 10 machine, I have the same BOSD issue after I installed official driver.
I tried with a windows 7 virtual machine, USB blaster is correctly seen by quartus II but when I start programming, the application crash after few seconds ...

Funny that I was exactly at same point last weekend doing exactly same thing with same hardware.

The driver that you need is this one:

In order to install it to Win10 you need to first execute "bcdedit /set testsigning on" and reboot the PC. After that the installation should go without problems.

Thanks, I tried with this driver already on my VM, but I had another problem after that : the USB Blaster was not visible in the programming app. I'll try on the non VM Windows 10 I have to see if it's working better or not.
I tried with Ubuntu 16.04 too with no success

I've had luck with those 'Rev C' USB blasters supplied through/by Waveshare on both Win10 and Linux. I also had a few die on my (from other suppliers), although they never cause BSODs only issues programming.
Unfortunately not sure where I got the Windows driver from. I think I just installed the USB drivers from the Quartus installation.

Ok I tried with a Windows 10 computer using the unsigned driver and I have the same behaviour than on my VM : device manager is seeing it correctly with no warning or error, but the Quartus II programming app is not seeing it. I guess my USB Blaster is the worst existing clone ... I'll get another one from another source !

I don't know if this helps, but I used the Quartus 2 13.1 that I downloaded using the link on the Carnivore 2 documentation.

Is the ribbon cable assembled correctly? The red marked wire seems on opposite sides of the connectors, but can't really see from the photo (too small).

I did install this version too ...
I did order another USB Blaster from another source, I hope it'll be ok with this new one !

Regarding connection, I followed the guide.
