Ghost, new game for MSX in development

Francisco Téllez de Meneses is the creator of Unepic, a game which has made its appearance on several platforms, among which the Wii U where he became the first Spanish indie developer on that Nintendo console. But Francisco's heart has always been close to the MSX. As a matter of fact, Unepic began as an idea to make a sequel to Konami's classic The Maze of Galious.

At the end of last year, he was encouraged to create a prequel to Ghost 1.0 for MSX, which was presented last December at the 50th RU of Barcelona, where it gained very positive attention.

Ghost is a metroidvania type adventure where you control Ghost, one of Viktor's agents, who has the mission to destroy a computer that went mad and is now controlling the "Dallas" space station. The focus is on exploration and finding the right items to progress on your quest.
The final product will consist of 100 screens, divided into 5 maps, and will have three boss battles, so it promises to be a treat for fans of oldschool adventure gaming.
Ghost will be released in physical format at the next RU of Barcelona, in June, and later will go on sale online. Francisco also plans to prepare a special edition of the game that will come accompanied by extra material.

Until then, we can at least look at the screenshots provided here.

Neat graphics! Smart way of working around the pattern mode restrictions. And I even bet that the blue grid background was set up in such a way that they won't mess up the intended black "transparent" spots in the player sprite (which probably has just two sprites, 15 and 5).

I especially find the 'spirit taking over the bodies of enemies' game mechanic interesting. I thought it was a brilliant idea in Relics, but that game could have used quite a bit less clunkiness to make it more playable.

I've played through it, and it's REALLY good! Feels like a proper spiritual sequel to Unepic, but with better characters and a better story, and some really intense combat challenges that definitely go well beyond what Unepic had to offer (seriously, Ghost 1.0 is *hard*, but in a good way!).

I'm absolutely *thrilled* to hear that Ghost 1.0 is coming to my recent favorite system, the MSX, and can't wait to try out this version! It looks like it's going to have a related story to the Windows version, though it also looks to be quite different, so it should be really interesting to see how the massive Windows title is adapted to 8 bits.

Ghost (MSX) is a prequel from Ghost 1.0 (PC), it isn't the same adventure. You will play the first adventure of her heroine. It's impressive how he was able to fit the game in only 32KB!!

Also, Francisco is planning to release Ghost MSX for PC (with the name of Ghost Mini):

I'm a big fan of Unepic and recently i've bought Ghost 1.0 via Steam, but my PC is old and the games runs not very well. ..

Holy crap that SD art of Ghost is adorable! The game looks super-fun, too, and I *love* the PSG arrangements of the music from Ghost 1.0 -- the trailer featured both of the best tracks from Ghost 1.0 ("Flying Robotic Artificial Nanobots" and "Jet Out the Amazing," which spell out FRAN and JOTA, the two main creative minds behind the game), and they both adapted perfectly to 8-bit.

There's nothing I don't like about what I'm seeing here, and I can't wait to play this. ;)

Unepic got ported to Wii U, of all things, so I wouldn't be too surprised if Ghost 1.0 got ported to console too.

HQ!

Some observations:
* could be interesting feat. to be able to shoot up-/downwards?
* soundtrack could be beefed up a bit perhaps by adding SCC;
* not sure what (primary) weapons will be available, but a grenade thrower seems just (> fun ) and perhaps mines? (Also thinking a bit MoG here.. )

In ghost 1.0 there are tons of funny secrets and awesome ideas in the level design and in the game play.
Among the others I noted the penguin item that turns in fishes the energy cubes...
I have seen elsewhere that penguin and that fishes :-)

My cartridge of Ghost arrived today. I stumpled upon it when I ordered Tales Of Popolon and was just curious, ´cause I´ve missed the newspost.

Thank you! Yes, there is a leftover of some posters here, now I´m able to give our living room a daily change.
We are going to get an exhibition soon, where I like to put some MSX pictures within. Wonder how much people remember... And hard to decide which pictures to choose.
