I think I tried the same pad and had some problems with it too.

Is it a Chinese-type / small dimension joypad with a short cable ? If that's the case, beware not to plug this joypad without a JoyMega on your MSX. If you do that, some components will fry and the pad will not work anymore (or maybe just work in 3 buttons mode). These low-cost models seem to miss some protection diodes or something... I would try the pad on a Megadrive with a 6 buttons game (like StreetFighter) to be sure.

If you open the pad, you should notice that the Mode button circuitry is present on the right side. You can still put a switch on it. I used these low-cost models as an MSX interface in X-Arcade joysticks. You can find some directly from China for something like 5€ including shipping :-)

Also, I noticed that some combinations of Megadrive clone pad / MSX do not work well (had some issues on the National CF3000 MSX when eveything was working OK on Philips / TurboR). Maybe give a try on another MSX.

Yes, in fact those are looking exactly the same as the pads mentionned by raulsantacruz in the previous email.

!! Just do not plug them directly on your MSX, you might fry them !!

I have not tried NYYRIKKI's method to get a JoyMega directly with these. Looks cool but you won't be able to re-use your joypad on a Megadrive (well,if you care).

It is not working with joytest.com, sofarun i cant get to work properly.
I use the MFR with sd card, spacemanbow gets loader inro frashrom, but maze of galious not.
And that game is set to 6button joystick use.

Hi Emil,

I've only tested JoyMega built with these schematics : http://frs.badcoffee.info/hardware/joymega-en.html
This works well on both joytest and SofaRun. I can't help you with the other method with transistors and resistors.

The Maze of Galious works with SofaRun, with all JoyMega configurations. Check that you are using the latest version of OPFXSD.COM.

Also, sofarun.com and opfxsd.com must be in your PATH environment variable. Add a "PATH A:\BIN" line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file and put both SOFARUN.COM and OPFXSD.COM in A:\BIN. The next release of SofaRun won't need that anymore.

It it still does not work, send me more details about your MSX machine and the ROM file you are using.

I re-tested My Joymega adapter and it works with the joymega.com and Sofarun utilitie only not in R800 mode on the turbo-r,
when i switch to z80 then it works fine.
Just a glitch in the software i think.

I put opfxsd and sofarun into the same dir as my games i want to start, and now it works perfectly.

I found the confusion i was still testing wit Joymega.com and thats the old version. Now i have tested it with the latest version Joytest.com and that one works fine on a turbo-r :D
And i can say the Transistor version works just as good as the 7404 version.

Cool ! Are the 6 buttons also working in Turbo mode (not only Z80 mode) ?
