Have fun building it, and if you have questions :-? or comments let me know.

Very nice and good photos, but I think that picture with all the connections would be nice add on to the document. Now for example what transistor legs should be connected to pins 7 and 8 is quite hard to see from the picture.

Greets to Louthrax as well.. Very neat looking solution!

Extended the previous version, added a Appendix with the Schematic.
Transistor and resistor info.

Better, better... Now add few more lines and write the pin numbers to each end. Smile

Louthrax,

Nice idea and very nice software ! Smile2
Can you make a version for MegaSramSCC?
And can you make a version with FM-Towns controler support ?
This controler is the same as MSX but with 2 additional buttons (in fact: SELECT=Up+Down and START=Right+Left). No adapter required!

Well i think it's fine this way, everything you need for the adapter is explained in the description.
Starting with the first 5 pin that are one on one connected, they don't need to be explained again in a schematic.
And the schematic explains the inverter part.
The original design also has a schematic that shows the connections.

Hi
thanks for developing this tool

I've a one chip msx with non working keyboard interface and was looking for a software solution (meanwhile I manage to restore it somehow) and sofarun seems the perfect fit

Only issue I'm experiencing is the megaflashrom scc+ sd required message when trying to start some roms, which I understand is related to the fact the one chip max only implements ESE MegaSCC+
I might be wrong but I guess it is pretty simple to add an option (even better detect the different MEGA SCC hardware in place) and run RmglOcm romloader executable in my case

Do you think it is a workable solution?

Thanks once more for your devotion to MSX and lazy ones!

Thanks Emil for the JoyMega documentation update ! Your solution could maybe be fitted directly into the MegaDrive pad ? You'd loose Megadrive compatibility with your pad though...

I made some casing for my JoyMega adapters a while ago:

That could be something interesting to produce and sell ? I won't have time for that, but maybe the ReproFactory ? I can retrieve the casing (the plastic box I used) reference if needed.

Thanks for this idea gdx, this is really an interesting option. Even if the FM-Towns controller might be hard to find here, it's pretty easy to modify a re-wired MSX joypad to support that. I have a bunch of Microsoft "SideWinders" joypads rewired to DB9 plug. Just add 4 wires inside of the pad and you have a FM-Town pad :-)

An advantage of this method is that reading the joystick will be quite fast (reading the MegaDrive pads for 3 or 6 buttons is not so simple).

This might not work to have "in-game" buttons, like mapping to a button for "Jump" (instead of Up) in Maze Of Galious, as the directions buttons would be over-written by the new buttons. But I'm pretty sure it should work for the Weapons / Items menus in Metal Gear and MOG.

I'll try this soon and let you know of my results.
