Here's another one in which the unstable tempo of #2 is easily visible.

The peaks are the base drum and snare drum which are exactly in sync on #1 and #2. The spaces between the drums are all exactly the same, which means they're on a stable tempo.

Look at the selection. It starts and ends on a spot where all three files are synchronously, but in between #2 speeds up to get in sync again at the end of the selection... This happens as well in my blueMSX recording which Manuel posted...

mars2000you: those are not really spectrum views but very zoomed-out waveforms, i.e. time domain views, i.e. the signal amplitude as a function of time. Spectrum means frequency distribution, i.e. how much of each frequency there is. Normally "spectrum" just means the frequency content at some specific point in time, but it's also possible to plot a spectrum-over-time view by showing the loudnesses of frequency components with colors. Such an image is called a spectrogram. A spectrum analysis looks like this:

You're right, it's the 'Normal Zoom' of the waves in Audacity, there's also an option to trace the spectrum, but only for a sample of maximum 23,8 seconds.

Mars: Can you zoom your waves a bit more? In your example it's hard to see tempo differences...

I could zoom even more, but taking a screenshot will not be easy, as the result will be higher than my screen width.

Just take a part of the three tunes... I did the same... Mine is zoomed to only 7 seconds...

My guess about Meits's tunes is

0b47e: emulator
4f427: real MoonSound, because it's so different from the others. Why is there so much less bass compared to the other two. I would guess the lack of bass must be caused by the recording equipment. Maybe there's something wrong with the setup, impedance mismatch, bad preamps or converters or something? In my tests, I didn't have any problem with lack of bass with the real MoonSound.

I can't really tell the emulators apart. Let's say the first one is OpenMSX, and the last one is BlueMSX. Apparently none of the examples have the tempo problem.

Anyway, my conclusion is: real hardware has very slightly rounded high-end (if we assume that the lack of bass in Meits's example isn't a general problem, and at least I didn't have anything like that), but that difference is really subtle. This could be emulated with a subtle roll-off EQ. With emulators it's possible to cause very annoying timing problems.

I have yet to try the newest OpenMSX on my Mac, but today I'm trying to do the converter this thread was originally about.

Oh yeah, the correct row of answers to my listening test: (upside-down, so you don't accidentally see the answer, even if you accidentally click on the link...)
