Going directly to the point:
A friend of mine, part of this community (not from Brazil, but from Europe), well known by everyone here, is going through financial problems so deep that, at the moment, the guy don't even have power and heating at home.
Instead of giving him money, I want to propose the following:
- 1st) This guy is finishing a MSX game which is a remake of a classic game. I played a beta, saw the professional graphics and it's really cool. Maybe the community could arrange someone to produce nice carts of that game which would only be sold until he gets money enough to pay the bill. Price would be a little higher, carts would be exclusive (not being sold after that) and we would all be helping someone with similar interests of ourselves.
- 2nd) Maybe some of the other games he was part of could have a "relaunch" (with a higher margin for him for every cart sold)
- 3rd) I'll help him to organize his portfolio of products and services to make it easier to sell stuff to indie game developers for example.

So, any other ideas?

Send him money...
The rest will follow. Without power and heating it is hard to code ...

its almost 1.500 euros. I can't do it alone. Let's think about community solutions.

Start a kickstarter project for this game, it seems to work for a lot of projects these days.

I think it's a nice idea, but it it doesn't look like a structural solution. *If* the sales of this game(s) even reach the € 1.500,- and some bills get payed, what will follow? Some game sales might offer a tad of a financial injection, but he has to sort things out himself.
I can't imagine it's a dutch person, because social security is rather good organized around here. Same goes for most west/north European countries.

Can you make some video of the game to facilitate/sensitize more people?

im not going to tell who he is. he can show himself if he wants. hes using the internet on some friends house afaik.
I also dont expect the game profit to reach that amount, but that could help. I would pay, lets say 20 Euros over costs price for the cart. that could help, i think.
About the power bill, do we have a Dutch lawyer among us? He is Dutch. he said that his bill was around 700. then someone came up asking for that amount. he had only 600. now the company is charging 700 plus 600 as a penalty of some kind for having to cut the wires at his place. Im from Brazil. here it would be possible to hire a lawyer to ask for a huge reduction (or installments) on the overall debt.

Sad story.

And this reaction of the company is weird. Instead of taking the money, they deliberately make things worse.

I found this:

http://www.access-nl.org/living-in-the-netherlands/living/ga...

Quote:

Request a new connection
Ask the operator you have chosen for a quote for making a connection (in case the telephone browsing menu is in Dutch ask for the help of a Dutch-speaking person, it will help you immensely)
Place your order to connect and pay the connection fee. The rates for making the connection are determined by the Office of NMa
The connection will be made according to the schedule decided and agreed upon by both the parties
The installer will let you know when the connection is ready

Anyone from the Netherlands know if it would be possible for the guy to request a different supplier? There's a centralized bureau of credit already functional in the Netherlands?

Incidentally, what about crow-funding an msx project ?
It could be very motivating for the developers to receive money for their projects.
The users could choose which project push more and the commitment of the team to deliver a finished product would be much higher than when they work in the spare time for hobby.

Does anyone knows/have tried any crow-funding platform ?
