Hi!
I've been looking for a SCC version of TwinBee that can run on real hardware. There's none that work correctly for me on the net - not even on emulators - and, the KGC vol 3 just doesn't seem to find any of my SCC cartridges no matter what I do, including the MegaFlashRom SCC+ (it does work with the SD Snatcher cartridge in OpenMSX, but alas I don't own SD Snatcher).
After I stumbled upon this thread, I decided to try again to get TwinBee working with SCC. After some trialing and error, I got one from KGC vol 3 that works on MegaFlashRom+ =).Also on emulators (at least OpenMSX) with all SCC cartridges I tried.
Now, there seem to be at least three versions of the KGC vol 3 on the net (md5sums):
d5ea9e27c3440cd9ab98bacfdd2295de
6716ba20a935be3722a61dff5f5600e4
4e69b78d53bbb85b3f9b539ceb7cd35b
The rom file I got from the first two ones is identical, but it hangs once in a while (even in an emulator), but the one from the last disk didn't hang, according to short testing.
You'll need tools from Manuel Pazos web site.
1st, patch the disk to work on any SCC with kogcpat2 (I believe ESE SCC is the intention but it seems to work on other SCC's too - but for some reason, even after patching I couldn't get it to work from disk with SCC, even with OpenMSX).
2nd, extract the games with cut005
You should get a 72kb file with a md5sum of:
c428ed97a314b8695451ef8917c5e832
0ef651c766fc1007054b11d86339efb3
The latter one is the one that seems to work better =)
There are a few problems, however. After a while playing, the ground turrets graphics get a bit messed up. And, also, the ship sometimes "jumps" around (rarely), sometimes leaving a stationary black outline (as from the green bell) on the screen. These could be bugs in the original game too, or, there is something wrong with the dump I got. However all the SCC version rom files I found on the net have the exact same bugs - but without SCC. And also the ones on the net are 128kb instead of 72kb (hmm, I wonder why?).
Cheers!
